Hello all. Just picked up my ZX last week. Noticed the gear indicator only shows neutral and nothing else. Suggestions?

Possibly has a TRE installed.
Read more here.....
====================================================================
TRE-006A - $25.00
2006 & up ZX-14
Requires sub-throttle plate removal & mapping for no sub-throttles.
Gets rid of fuel shut-off on decell -
This will allow smooth on/off throttle transitions and will get rid of the annoying pop when the throttle is reapplied.
Gets rid of part throttle timing retarder in lower gears.
Gear indicator will show "N" in any gear

I have the Gipro TRE and the factory display only shows "N" or "6" It works by fooling the ECU into thinking it's in 6th gear so you always have full ignition advance. The Gip[o comes with it's own gear indicator.

Down at the left side, say above the sprocket, there are wires for the speed sensor and gps. There might be a wire out of a connector with something attached to it? Any wire touched in the ign/fuel system loop, the ECU detunes the bike for safety.
Basically what happens is to guess like when the harley VOES sensor fails, the ECU defaults to a start ignition curve and a full advance curve. It had 3 like I'm guessing the same default happens is the abrupt start to full advance at some rpm threshold and you can probably tell reading it on the tach as you feel it change. Both meet and exchange curves at a certain rpm threshold say 2,000 rpm. So this bike revs higher, you have the same effect at a certain [higher] rpm threshold.
You couldn't start the bike well with the mid curve, you'd more tax the battery and overheat starting out that low as well. So the system takes the same ignition curve and whoever else is in the loop [also has a crossover bleed], when all the 7 resistances were being adjusted with each gear plus N meaning. Now no gear goes thru its calc, but defaults to a backup single calc and the ECU takes care of the downed analog input that is now a single or digital input.
1. Wire out of connector: No it's not, just looped back into the connector.
2. Connector not connected: Yes they are so this is not it.
3. Short to ground, signal out of range: This is it. Signal went from analog to digital is signal out of range.

2 harnesses coming out of the counter shaft sprocket cover...
Harness 4-connector square connector ~ GPS harness is it... G/R then Lite/G, the oil light wire and then the N wire that is being triggered. G/R would trigger a locked 6. Light green goes to the dash, and the oil switch wire is go look at the switch down by the oil filter and deduct those colors until you see N or that colored wire is the problem causing a cold N is that wire/switch/etc.
Harness 3-wire triangle connector = Speed sensor ~ No it.
