Dyno day with autotune
08/09/12 11:38 AM

So I have the Autotuner installed, and I have arranged an hour on a dyno at a local auto hot rod shop where they will set me up and let me do my own thing with the bike. The procedure seems pretty simple - I'll basically just be looking for an optimum target afr to plug into the autotuner.

I mostly will be trying to tune my low end for street use, especially since the bike seems to be running poorly below 3500 at low (2-5%) throttle positions. But I will also definitely be doing some full power runs, at various throttle positions, to try to fill out the entire map.

Any suggestions/recommendations/cautions I should worry about? Is there a limit to say, number of pulls I should do in some unit time?

I will be interested to see how this works for you Caroobs. A dyno is a lot more practical than doing high speed runs on the street.

I would talk to Romans about using AT. He has the secrets on how it works. He mentioned that rolling off the throttle too slow messes up the fuel trims generated by AT. Sorry, I can't give more info but if you PM Romans I bet he will set you on the right direction.

I would think that some pulls on the road would be needed to map for the "ram air" effect, no?

does the map sensor account for that when riding in real world situations? Or do you just add a small % increse at higher rpm's in the top 3-4 gears.

Well I'll leave the autotune on. I'll use the dyno to get things right on the dyno, and by leaving the autotuner on it should make adjustments as necessary over time for things like air velocity, temperature and humidity (big deal here in New Orleans). At least that's what I think. This is my first time trying any of this stuff, and my main goal is really not to break anything for now.
