Two Brothers full exhaust installation
02/10/11 10:05 PM

I installed a Two Brothers VALE complete system on my ZX 14, the one with the stainless pipe and M2 Carbon fiber canister. The quality of the hardware was excellent and the fit was flawless. Everything went together as expected, all the parts fit well, and the installation was easy. My biggest difficulty was getting the pipes to seal at the engine mounting point because it was difficult to get leverage with the tools I had to torque the nuts. The space between the engine and radiator is tight and all I could get in there were 1/4" drive wrenches with short handles. I had to run the engine several times, listen for leaks, tighten the nuts again, and so forth before I stopped all the leaks. I needed 20 lb-ft of torque on the nuts and my torque wrench could only reach the two outside nuts.

The system comes in three parts: the 4-2-1 header is all one piece and welded, then there is connecting pipe to the canister, then the canister itself.

I did it for looks and weight reduction. As a matter of fact, I was not interested in a loud system. TBR makes two different tips I can use to reduce the sound and I installed the P1 tip with reduces db's by 3 to 4. They also make a P1x that reduces db's by 6 to 8. It is louder than I wanted right now with the P1 installed, but I really like the quality of the sound, it's deep and throaty.

I removed most of the plastic to have easy access to the engine manifold

I removed the bolt holding the bottom of the radiator and I pushed the radiator forward as much as I could to have better access, it was still very tight.

Here is a good frontal view

You can see the welds on the 4-2-1 section. This one large welded section fit into the engine bolt location perfectly, they must have a real good jig.

This mid section pipe clamps to the 4-2-1 header and uses the VALE system to attach to the canister. These two joints can swivel and move before tightening, making alignment easy.

An exposed overall view

The clean left side now

Very trim right side

I really like the way it looks

A bit closer to the canister

Wow, that thing is beautiful.

It is not that big of a deal to drain system and remove radiator if you are removing an entire exhaust system, IMHO. Also, new gaskets always a good idea but they say the old ones will seat eventually if there is a minor leak. I just spend the $15 and put new ones in.

The bike looks brand new. Often dust shows up readily in photos but I don't see a spec. Very nice.

I ordered my exhaust on a Tuesday, it was supposed to be in in two days, on Thursday. But the delivery got caught in the D-FW snow and ice storm and it took a week to get here. I had already removed the old pipes so I had nothing to do but dust off the bike. I had a chance to get to all kinds of nooks and crannies.

It looks great. I went with the Brock's, but the TBR Vale was my other choice. I am impressed with the quality of the workmanship on them.

Great Pics! That bike is so clean, that it makes me want to go detail mine!!!

Question though, on the left side of the bike, there is a "something" knurled looking attached to the left side passenger rear set. What is that?

wacko

That knurled cylinder is the handle for the Kawi center stand, which I had to take off because the TBR system does not have a stop for the up position. I think I'll leave it on for now, it helps when using the rear stand that I have to replace the center stand.

I now have over 500 miles on the bike since the TBR installation. And I like the way it works. Sot it has been a very satisfactory purchase. I like the way it looks. I like the way it works.

First, let me say that most of my riding is on two lane country roads around East Texas. I don't do track days, nor the drag strip, and I don't use it to commute.

The bike is running great and I did not do anything with the fuel map. No PCV nor Juice Box, I am just letting the OEM ECU handle the change. And it is working fine. In 500 miles I maybe have heard slight backfire four or five times. The fuel mileage has not changed, using the display avg MPG. The throttle response is as crisp as before. The TBR website states that a fuel remap is not necessary for street riding. My experience supports that.

The seat of the pants performance feels better, that should not be a surprise. More HP and less weight is a win-win situation. I find myself twisting the throttle more, revving the engine higher, enjoying the power even more.

I am really enjoying this mod.

I have the two bros exhaust too. Mine wasn't welded at the joints. The only thing I didn't like was they fit too close to my oil filter. Other than that , i'm happy with the sound and looks.

A pair of cold air injection block off plates will kill most of that back firing.
Muzzy sells pretty billet ones. Cheaper options are out there.

Very nice!

I went with the black full, filter and juice box pro.

I have it programmed for the changes per Two Bros and its adjusted all the way down on the three fine tune points.

I do get a little backfire.

You can definately feel the change in the seat!

I finaly located a local tuner that I hope can tweak mine before summer, though he did recommend the TRE and secondary removal first.

It's a little loud, but hey... it's a beast that likes to be noticed! Lol.
