Alternative to grip puppies
10/29/15 3:18 PM

Like several of you, I get numb and tingly from longer rodes. I have tried different grips, bar risers, grip puppies, gel gloves, etc etc..... I wanted to slide some grips over my existing grips but did not want to make my grips too large (like grip puppies). I came across these "Alloy Art TRR-01" and fitted them today. Took the bike for a blast and they seemed to do the trick. They were a bit of a pain to fit but after reading the WD-40 trick on another forum then cleaning the grips with window cleaner then alcohol to make them tacky I have found the perfect grip for me. They retail under $20 and I got mine on ebay for about $18

got to position this one better... but you get the idea!

So they dampen vibration better than a foam grip? They look kind of thin, but if they work I may be interested.

Foam is better at dampening for sure, I can't find any foam that do not drastically increase the grip size so these are the lesser of 2 evils for me personally. If you don't mind thick foam like the grip puppies they would surely be better at dampening vibrations. Sorry for the confusion. Grip puppies have always been a love & hate relationship.....

I have the grip puppies and my hands still go numb, so I really don't know what direction to go from here. Thanks for the info.

Maybe it's not the vibrations that are doing this.Could it be the hand angle and grip force causing numbness?Try a Throttlemiester...if you want. And some tank knee grips.Getting your weight off the bars is critical to saving your hands.Carpal Tunnel comes to mind here...could this be the issue?Probably 'millions' of people have this and don't recognize what it is.

It could be the hand angle, have tried various risers but stock height works for me.... I feel like I have more control. Grip force is not the issue, I have a very light grip in general. Have a throttlemeister from other bike, it just won't match with all the gold on this bike....lol, I am pathetic. Changed every visible bolt to gold titanium because I thought it looked better.

Well...it DOES look awesome.Rattle can that throttlemiester! It'll still work;)I installed a set of ProTaper MX grips(pillow design) on my H2.Then bought some (crazy as this sounds)an ice scraper that had two foam grips on it.These fitted perfectly over the other grips.Virtually zero vibration now.I cut that inboard rubber flange down to match the switchhousing diameter so it wouldn't look so...'large'.
And also cut the end off to fit totally over the bar.

Make sure that in a normal riding position, you wrists are in a straight line. Any bending can cause knumbness issues. You may have to adjust the lever orientation, which, on some bikes, means grinding off the locating tabs on the control pods.

Thank you rider345, Toronto cycles in Canada and a couple of bolts from Pro Bolt (they are fucking crooks). The dude ships next day and his prices are fair. It was not a cheap fast fix (probably have $400+ in gold bolts), but since the bike was a limited edition and there was so much gold from the factory I wanted to do a complete job. I did everything visible literally (front & rear rotors, fairings, windscreen, axles, cases, controls, frame, axle nut, literally everything.

Seno you said you dont want grips that are too thick, so this may not work for you.
I went to Canadian Tire and bought foam grips for a bicycle $4.99 for the pair.
I had grip puppies on before that and my hands went a numb after a while.
Took the grip puppies off and put the Canadian Tire grips on ....can ride all day with zero issues.
Two drops of soap and some water , they went on in 2 minutes...absolutely perfect fit.
I can post a picture if you want.

Please do King, I would love to see what they look like.
A brief update, went out on bike yesterday for 2.5 hours literally with almost no issue.... Well except traffic on Long island. It wouldn't have been bad but there was a highway cop next to me checking out the bike for like 20 minutes...

I cut one end piece off as you can see....they are MUCH MUCH better that grip puppies !
I had zero numbness after the switch to these.
Third picture shows difference in thickness.
Once stretched over the bar end they glide right on with some soapy water.
For $4.99 they are the shit for me . I have since bought a couple spares.
Hope this helps you and anyone else with vibe issues.

Thanks, this is the 3rd bike I have put the Rizomas on and those are the new style. Splurged this time and bought the Rizoma mounting brackets instead of bending up the ones they come with.... Expensive but much easier to deal with on the install.

So, no concern about brake fluid degradation due to sunlight?

Whenever I change the pads I put new fluid in... or when it starts looking shitty. So in answer to your question, No. I could understand the concern- checked the Rizoma site to see if the glass had any "UV coating" but I could not find any information.

Hi guys,

Sorry if I come across as high and mighty but to me it doesn't sound like any type of after market grips will 100% help you.
The only reason your hands will go numb is you have too much weight on them or you are gripping to tightly.
I believe that is regardless of what grips you have.

When I started riding I had the same hand numbing issues.
Then I did the Californian Superbike School and started to reduce the weight on my hands by taking it with my thighs.
Yes, my thighs then got sore but that was temporary.
I now know that if my hands start to feel even the slightest bit of uncomfortableness, I have gotten lazy with gripping with my thighs.

Just saying this was the answer for me...

You come across just fine bro, thanks for your suggestion. Maybe your right, maybe not..... Grips do help me quite a bit, especially when I am 2 up riding the twistys. I am not a small dude (6Ft a fit 240 working or 4/5 days a week:running 2-3 miles then lifting weights an hour, and training Krav Maga 3-4 nights a week). Have been riding motorcycles 29 years and this is an issue I have had developed a few years back but never before (have previously owned: gs550, 85 gpz 750 turbo, fj1100, 2 zx6's, v65 magna, 2 zx9's, and 3 zx14's). Bar risers make the issue worse (have tried 2 different types), changed my grip multiple times, consciously focus on gripping the bars very light. I threw tons of shit in this reply but giving you all the background info so you know my background, history and state of being. Trust me, I would love to get rid of the tingly feeling and welcome any suggestions. I will try and see if grabbing with the knees helps, but not optimistic.
