Wow! I'm impressed with all the great responses and solutions to my center stand stop problem. First, why have a center stand? I probably would not have one if I just drove locally all the time, never straying past around 100 miles from home. But I love the fast sport touring that this machine offers, and I love being out on long trips in the Western US, often in the middle of nowhere. So if you are going to get lost on those deserted stretches, you really need a center stand so that you can oil your chain and do maintenance when needed, especially if you are by yourself. One of the reasons why I gave up my ZZR1200 for the ZX14 (besides the performance) was that I could also install an OEM exhaust. Besides, a true racer this bike is not.
I'll also rave about one more thing, sorry, and that is having a Scott Oiler. I had one on my ZZR 1200 and I think that I only had to adjust the chain once or twice in 25,000 miles. In fact, I sold it with the original chain! And believe me, it's great not to have to oil or adjust the chain everyday on the road. The little oiler puts a drop on the chain every minute or so, and the chain is always looking good without too much slack or tightness. I have the separate long range reservoir that hides under the seat.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for writing in with their personal solution. Hank's solution is a little vague because I don't have the Givi bags, and I'm not sure how it would work, and need more closeups, but he sure has a nice setup and a beautiful bike for touring. I like the quick fix of the heat shield material from Erik. That looks like something I might try until I figure a long term solution. Bean 07's solution also looks promising and something that I might look into, but I would like to see the closeups on that one. Nice red machine! Neil's welding job is very cool, I'd say. I wish that I was that ambitious and knowledgable in the welding area and I would go that route, but unfortunately, I'm not. Lastly, I'm going really to look into CoolWipe's solution with Brock's "center stand stop for ZX14." I mean...there it is, if I just want to plunk down the money and solve the problem..like that, which is probably what I will probably do in the end. Hey guys, thanks for all your help. I'm new to forms, but look at what you can accomplish! So here's to meeting on the road somewhere in the middle of nowhere! Brian
