ZX14 Leg & Head Room?
06/22/19 10:47 PM

Scanning through the forum I notice many here are modding to lower pegs and raise grips. So... What’s with that? How tight is it stock for real men? How does it compare to sitting on a Concours 14? Going from my C14 to a ZX14 I’m looking to be laid out more, in a better 80+MPH tucked riding position. Laying out on my C14 is not a perfect natural feeling. What do you guys think, who have put riding time on both bikes?

Two different bikes....

Sport Touring vs Super Sport.

One you ride with your butt and the other with your core.

Here's an example. 6'1" x 36" inseam

That can be a helpful website. Is it available to everyone?

I'm 6'3" I have 1 inch bar risers and stock pegs. For long trips I use a Concourse seat. I've ridden 1500 miles on a couple trips with no issues. Did a 300 mile romp yesterday. The 14 is very comfortable.

For me at 68, it is my worn out body. Bad Knees, both hips, neck injury, back injuries and wrist injuries. Getting low behind the screen is impossible for me. Besides, I bought it for touring not drag racing. Modifying my Bike was most enjoyable.
I need someone make me a screen as wide as the fairing, 3" wider on each side of my Zero Gravity shield to redirect the Bugs off my Shoulders and Arms.

DD,
I’m looking for a riding situation that is easier to naturally layout and tuck-in, better than the c14 I ride now. Most of my riding time is well over 70 mph and the upright c14 position is not perfection. I want my head lower and my feet farther back. To get there on my c14 my arms are crunched up with my nose near even with my grip. Not cool.

Juan, you need to test ride a ZX14r. You will like it being 100 lbs. lighter and much faster.
I say most riders on this forum go at least the posted speed limit in Montana. I occasionally wick it up on lonely roads.

Well... Whatever it takes. I’m hooked on this motor. The delivery of power is perfection in my mind and I’m basing that on my 2008 C14 with all the yahoo mods. I’m going to try to NOT do any yahoo mods on the incoming ZX14, but... I’ve said that on every new toy I’ve brought home. Again, I want a more laid out position from my C14 but I’m not considering anything outside of this motor.

On weekends, I’ve been riding something somewhere forever but, for the first time in my life, I’m using a bike, my C14, to commute everyday. It’s so much f’ing fun to lane-split in California instead of sitting in traffic for 3-hours a day. I’m knocking that time down to under 1.5-hours and it’s FUN! So who deserves a ZX14 more than me? Nobody.

1” bar risers and a slightly higher after market screen (cheap Chinese jobby fits perfect and looks great) do it for me. For the longer rides (600m+)I use an Airhog seat which makes one hell of a difference. Shorter rides with the OEM seat are fine. 6’3” with 34” inside leg. I’ve spent the last 30+ years on all out sports bikes so I find the 14 quite relaxed in comparison.

I'm 6'1" - helibar 3/4" risers, stock pegs, Corbin seat, and a zero gravity double bubble windscreen. I rode from Michigan to Austin, TX for the motogp races back the beginning of May. Took tons of backgrounds and had a blast - 2,600 miles and I was never uncomfortable - well other than the Texas heat!!

I’m looking forward to seeing the 2020 and hoping they make changes worth waiting for.

if ya want your feet back farther, you might get some rearsets. And if you want a more contoured body position, you don't really want risers, unless they allow you to tuck down a bit more.Sounds opposite of what you want, but sometimes taller means sliding back farther and lowing you chest more.Risers may help you to get that going.Without arm fatigue.

Sounds right. I think getting the pegs lower and back would get me closer to what I’m looking for. I’ll look up the “rear-sets” mentioned.
Thanks

See my posting at:

http://zx14ninjaforum.com/messages.cfm?threadid=B2158D82-E9B7-6124-B7127487A34EB2A2

These were VERY inexpensive compared to most rearsets, look terrific compared to the OEM pegs, and have worked GREAT for me (I have had them installed for several months now).

They allow you to move the fotopegs to MULTIPLE different posiitons both horizontally and vertically, by up to 2 inches.
