Check with your local dealer. I think there was a factory recall on them for frame cracks. Was something like an over tightened fastener somewhere.

The recall was only on the 06-07. The solution was to torque the bolt through the frame looser. I'm sure there are threads on here about it and you could find out what bolt it was. The 08-11 had a revised frame so it would be unusual for the problem to crop up on one of those bikes.

Actually, the engine mount was over-tightened at the factory, causing the frame to crack under stress. There wasn't a problem with the frame itself. Only '06-'07 were affected, and only a small percentage of a specific assembly line.

yea i read that about the 06 and 07 models. my only thing now is do i buy another frame and do the swap OR call my insurance comapny to total the bike to upgrade and go get the 14r? Im sure neither the dealer nor the builder will take responsibility for overtorqing the engine mounts and i'm not quite sure i want to have it rewelded

Regardless of the cause, probably neither will take responsibility for the crack. You won't get much for an 09 through insurance. Maybe you could get another Gen1 if you have a lot of aftermarket stuff that would swap across, then total the old one. If you don't have to completely remove the engine, I think buying a new frame piece would be the best way to go.

I don't have a pic of mine, and like I said, it wasn't a defect of the frame, so there were cracks in different places on different bikes. Usually on the weld on the lower cross member.
