Insurance Issues
03/16/12 9:59 AM

My friend just bought a Busa. He was quoted a modest $1600 a year. He assumed this included he previous speeding tickets. Upon initiating the insurance, the amount changed to $4000/year since they added his previous infractions. He financed the bike with a company that requires full coverage. I told him to store it in his house without insurance on it this summer until the tickets drop off or just sell it. Are there any other options out there besides storing or selling? I feel bad for the guy because it pretty much put a damper on the whole summer.

in ohio even if he gets full coverage to get it home as soon as he drops it the insurance co by law has to inform the bank at which time the bank will insure it thru a company that will be 3x's what he was paying. Have him check out geico , thats who i had when i lived in Ohio

I think $600 a year is pretty cheap. I wish I could get that kind of deal here in Philly, but insurance companies won't give me a quote without a VIN number. And since I am still shopping for a bike ...

I thought I was high...I am going through Geico, have a clean record and I am paying around 860.00 in Northern Virginia. The bad thing about Geico is that they don't underwrite the motorcycle policies. So, if you have car inusrance through them, you end up with two different policies and don't get a multiple vehicle discount.

The full coverage with 100k / 100k / 500 / 500 on my Connie is $400 / year through State Farm. Next year it will go down due to depreciation of course.

Was that Geico? I was going to get insurance through them and they quoted me a good price. Then, AFTER taking my credit card number, they doubled the quote because of tickets. Why didn't they do that BEFORE taking my card number???I think that is real shady and I will NOT give them my business.

The "Ninja" moniker is what kicks the insurance out of the ballpark. My ZZR 1200 was $375/yr. for full coverage. the same company, with which I have all my cages and my house, wants $1700/yr. for the 14 for fc.

I had to switch insurance companies because of my 14. Not an easy decision when my agent was a life long friend working in the same building, so I see her every day. Problem is, no company could compete with with State Farm. To my old agent's credit, she did everything in her powers, but her company couldn't compete.

Try State Farm. It was the only company that was reasonable to me.

+1 Found nothing better for MC ins.

don't agree to sign up for the credit card even if they tell you to cancel as soon as you get it. It will be a hassle. Say NO. Also, life insurance from SF is way TF too expensive. You can do much better buying online for all that life ins is worth.

Insurance is way high for these bikes. I was pissed when I was getting my first quotes the other day. They were talking like $2400-$2500. So I said screw and did it under mine and my dads name and its still $1350 a year. Doesn't make sense when i'm in Utah and can only ride 6-7 months out of the year but whatever. But ended up only being $20 more a month then my 06 Hayabusa so its all good.

UPDATE - He went with Foremost and is now paying almost $3,000/year. I'm paying a little over $2,000/year for my ZX14 so I figured that's alright for our ages with these kind of bikes. I guess when something is truely worth it, you'll pay anything.

Mine was about $1440 a year in NE (a couple of tickets), now that I have moved to TX and gotten all my points back it is about $560 a year!!!!!! Progressive! I initially thought my insurance went down just because I had gotten all my points back but apparently Austin, TX get your better rates than Lincoln, NE which is/was voted top 10/15 healthiest USA cities to live in! Go figure!
State Farm got some good rates but they'd drop you like a hot potato if you get ticketed on a regular basis!

$1300/yr full coverage with Geico. MC theft in Louisiana is bad, so the good guys have to suffer for that..the other big companies wanted $2000-2400/yr. Im 39 and the record is clean...
