07/07/15 10:13 AM

I have seen pictures of retractable hooks on Asian?and European model ZX14R

Can anyone find Kawasaki P/N for these?

Thank you!

Is it the hooks that you're after, or is it more generally having somewhere on the seat to hook bungees to ?

I know Australian spec'd bikes have them supplied as standard but my understanding is US bikes don't.
Are you sure there is provision for the US bikes to accept them?

Hi Yanni,

Yes, those black hooks are exactly what I was talking about. I am not sure about the provision, though. Looks like the side fairings need to have holes and the frame has to accept screws? I thought those hooks were handy if I could somehow install them on my US spec. ZX.

I asked the same thing on here before. Where it ended, I believe, is that the parts have to be identified and special ordered.

My local dealer had the PN for grab bar, but not the hooks.

Hi, the Loading hooks attach to the frame rails with small brackets.
On the UK ZZR there are two 6mm nuts welded into the rails on each side for the brackets.
With the bolts, springs, brackets, spacers and hooks there are nine parts per side.
Couldn’t believe the price for the hooks £36.00 each!
Took mine off they just seemed to catch on everything, just a pain.

Strange.
Folded in how do they catch on anything?
I have never come close to having that problem.

Plus when I am not touring and my rear seat cover is on they are hidden completely.

Before I added my top rack I had side racks for Givi Bags.
I bought these rubber coated electrical clamps at LOWE'S.
I slipped them over MW-tech tubular racks, added heavy insulated copper wire for Bungee hooks.
These connections were out of the way of the bags for my duffle bag.
For the time and effort you are going to spend just get the side rack brackets.
Try to locate the tubular steel. I saw posted elsewhere that they are now flat stock.

I was thinking the reason the US guys don't get the hooks is because of the pillion seat cover. Does it not interfere with your seat cover or did you modify the seat cover where the plastic goes over the hooks?

Hi WildPete,

You got a good point. I did futher search on those hooks and they indeed interfer with the pillion seat cover. Some shops in Japan sell the pillion seat cover in Japan and they clearly say "You must remove the hooks". I tried to find the price of those parts based on PN given by Omega2K but no luck. I guess I'd better go different way - installing the rear rack like SV650's. Now I have to start a whole new search...but it is fun

Oldman, why did you want the hooks? What exactly are you trying to do? Are you looking for a way to attach luggage without huge panniers?

Hi Guys, I can only comment on Australian spec'd bikes here.

When I tour, the rear pillion seat cover comes off and the hooks can then be extended for use.
When I am not touring the pillion cover goes back on and totally covers up the retracted hooks.

There is no issue or adjustment required on the pillion cover.

Lastly so all are aware, this is all OEM Kawasaki kit and not aftermarket.

Below, you can just see a bit of the hook base under the back of the seat and front section of the pillion cover.

With pillion cover off (you can see I don't actually use the hooks).

Hi WildPete,

"Are you looking for a way to attach luggage without huge panniers?" Yes, I want to have these hooks so that I can mount my soft luggage as needed basis. Panniers are good and the Givi rear box is good but I don't need them on daily basis. I have a soft bag that can be attached like the picture but it doesn't give me enough space to move my ass while riding. I thought the hooks would put the luggage bit more towards rear. I know the best way is to install the rear rack.

Have you looked into Kriega? Here's the strap system they use to mount their bags.

RE: Retractable Hooks

I contacted Kawasaki USA and you won't be able to order these parts in the US for the mod you are wanting. They were NO help. Like you I wanted to easily be able to bungee stuff to my seat, and the US version won't let us do it. One thing I like about my Blackbirds and Busa.

I picked up the retractable hooks from a wrecked bike in Australia off of Ebay (lucky!). There is a lot of parts to these if you are starting from scratch. I purchased the over-the-pond grab bar, with the loading hooks, and plastic from Cornwall Kawasaki in the UK. Below is the parts list.

em Qty Weight Cost Each Subtotal
460750577 GRIP,TAIL 1 Kg £131.58 £131.58
120CB0640 BOLT-SOCKET,6X40,BLAC 2 Kg £0.86 £1.72
270120736 HOOK,LOADING,RR 2 Kg £16.81 £33.62
130BA0835 5*BOLT-FLANGED,8X35 3 Kg £0.94 £2.82
360400059660 COVER-TAIL,CNT,M.S.BLAC 1 Kg £58.96 £58.96
Total: £228.70

If you snag the retractable hooks, all you need to do is Dremel some holes your plastic and it will look just like it should. All the mounting points are already there for the bolts in our US bikes. You will need to purchase the shorter plastic between the grab bar and taillight as you see in the parts list. I have a black 2012, which is a color that they have across the pond, but they may not have all US colors. You can still us the solo cowl cover with the retractable hooks, but not with the grab bar.

I attached a few pics of my install.

Hi RCRandy,

Looking good!! I contacted my local dealer and as expected they couldn't help. So I looked up parts fiche on a Japanese Kawasaki parts shop but your p/n wasn't the retractable one for some reasons. Anyway, I sent an e-mail to the parts house for their help. Hopefully they will get back to me soon.

Hi OldMan
While tidying my workshop today I found the retractable hooks, brackets, bolts etc. I removed some long time ago.
Not sure how it can be arranged, but if you are happy to cover the cost of postage UK to USA. I would be happy to pass them on to you.
Lots of comments about not being able to use them with the seat cover. I certainly did, not sure if the UK ZZR is different to the USA bike.

Hello kwakamax,

Thank you for your offer. Any ideas how much it would cost to US (ZIP 95110)? We could transfer the money via PayPal?

Hey OM

The parts list is for the grab bar parts only. You can purchase a grab bar in the US, but they do not have the loading hooks.

I would jump on the generous offer from Kwakamax.

Below is a link that will show parts view of both the grab bar and retractable hooks like Kwakamax is offering. Copy and paste.
