Rook has been a little bit adicted to facebook. Yet another symptom of midlife crisis. I'm fighting it off. If I don't post for a month you will know I found a much younger woman.
Thanks for checking up on me, mass.

If you don't hear from me for a week or two, I'm just busy. I need to move 200 miles north, back to my hometown. No computer and getting my stuff moved and packed /unpacked is going to take a lot of time. Hope you all have a great rest of your July. The weather has been outstanding. i hope to seek out some good safe places to go fast. That will be a challenge. Great roads but deer are as common as flies up there.
Another new job. I'm very excited about the opportunity that just sort of popped up. i will be working with my uncle and cousins in a building supplies co. The plant was mainly a cinder block factory in the past but they have not made blocks for quite some time. They may start that again. Too much valuable equipment to not do that, I'm sure. One of the things they now do is make 3 dimensional steel reinforcements for concrete structures. To start, I will be cutting, working with benders and welding. Don't be surprised if there is a Rook exhaust for the 14 some day. I will also be doing CAD drawings for these metal structures, truck deliveries, sales ....we talked about just about everything. My two cousins wear a lot of hats. That's the way business has always been run in my family. My father and other uncle were in the redi-mix cement and asphalt paving biz. The company I will work for was actually once a part of that. LOL I worked there quite a bit in HS so i sort of know how it works.

Its great that you have had a little luck as I know you've had a tough run of late.

it was a nice first week. Hope to get the bikes up there soon. There won't be a lot of time to ride. 10 hour days. By the time I'm done, there's an hour and a half before the deer come out of the woods...not that they live only in the woods.

Down here they like to nap just off to the side of the road.
[/Talking of the fairer sex a friend said this t'other day. our first marriage is to someone our own age. our second marriage is to someone half our age. our third marriage is to someone from Thailand. Rook might be just on the way :)
Work is going well. I'm learning a lot. It's all office work so far. My cousin asked me to bak a truck/trailor up and I think that convinced him to leave me in the office. I'm a little rusty after 30-some years. I guess he was not impressed with my fork lift prowess either. Oh well, it's about time I see the clean side of this business. I am hankering to get on that bar bender. It can infact be set up to bend pipe. Pipe bends a lot easier than bar. Maybe I will give Brock a run for his $$ some day!
Thanks for checking in. I'll be back as soon as possible.

Hey Rook,
Congrats on the new job. Hope this works for you and then you wont have to think twice about buying a turbo. I'm camping in Minnesota. Just drove thru s. Dakota and there are some beautiful stretches of road - namely us90 - 80mph speed limit. Sturgis had their annual bike gathering and there were a lot of harleys on the road. I must say that even without my bike, felt out of place. Sure wish i had my bike with me. Here is a pic from colorado.

I guess they're pretty cool but they sure like to stop me for speeding. Second stop no ticket. Last time doing 90 and a Sheriff comes over the hill at me. I stopped as soon as I saw him hit the shoulder to turn around. Just an hour ago, coming out of a corner doin about 80 in a 55. I see this SUV or pickup coming at me. "That couldn't be a cop but what's that big ole coffee can on top?" Sure enough, it was a cop. I considered hitting hyperspace to get the hell out of there but something told me to just stop. I pulled over, hit the flashers and waited. No ticket. He asked me if I knew why I was being stopped (actually, I just stopped, he never even had his lights going as far as I know). I told him "I was going pretty fast around that corner." He asked if I knew how fast I was going, pointing to the speedo on the bike. I just shook my head. I wasn't watching the speedo, I was watching the road. So he gave me back my license and registration and said "do the speed limit." Yes, sir. Thank you!
Two warnings. I gotta find places tp go fast that are farther out of town.

Yay Rook...
Good to hear from you mate.
Hope things are going great guns for you!
Just a quick one for you re your post above.
In my opinion, never, ever admit liability.
I had a very lucky escape the other day.
I was on the bike and came flying around a sweeper well over the speed limit on a quieter piece of road I sometimes use and a police car appeared on the other side coming the other way.
As we crossed I looked in the rear view mirror and his break lights were on and he was decelerating hard so I knew he was going to turn around and come after me.
Rook, like you Im not a runner because Im just not that kind of guy plus if they do end up getting you, you are in infinitely more strife so I slowed down and soon he was behind me with lights flashing so I pulled over.
He got out of his car and said "You have been pulled over for excessive speed and you are currently on video. Do you know what the speed limit of this road is?"
I answered yes and the value.
He then asked "And what speed were you doing?" I answered "I was watching the road and not my speedometer but it wouldn't have been more than the speed limit".
He looked at me, laughed, told me I was delusional plus stated at the lean angle I was on that was impossible, asked for my licence and walked back to his car.
I knew I was gone and my licence was an after thought.
After a short while he came back, asked me a few basic questions and then said
"You will not be receiving a speeding infringement today as my radar equipment was unfortunately on hold so I'm pretty pissed off right now because we both know what you were doing".
He then gave me a lecture on how public roads are not racetracks and how he was sick of cleaning motorcycle riders up after accidents (two pretty valid points), and drove off a very disappointed cop!
So away I rode as a very relieved and lucky man.
The moral is when asked how fast I was going, as ridiculous as my answer was, saying I was doing no more than the speed limit saved my arse.
Even if his radar was working and got the correct speed, I couldn't have been more "done" for mis-estimating my speed. Especially if I was watching the road only which is a good thing.
If I had self incriminated myself and advised any speed over the limit I would have been given an infringement for that number.
Its their responsibility to prove you were speeding / breaking the law. So why help?
Just my two cents worth and hope this might help someone.

You're right, mate. Don't run but no need to provide evidence. I'm pretty sure I could have gotten away without him ever catching sight of me again but no doubt every cop in two miles would have been put on alert. Even if no cops saw me before I got home, they'd sure be watching for me in the future and there is plenty of illegal equipment on my bike even if I wasn't speeding.

Santa is Master Card so I better be extra good for the next few months or I'll be in deep sh!t.
Mac has brought it's monitor up to new heights of clarity but the old one was already outstanding. Sound is also terrific. Some of the new software is not as good. There is no built in optical drive. Does not come with cordless keyboard either. So far, I prefer the old one but it was used up. Gotta move forward with the times.
I'm hoping Santa can stretch his generosity enough to bring me some bike goodies too!
