Last April I bought a black tank from another member. I am so busy that the tank has been laying around my apartment for months. Today I decided to go with the all black look. I’ll find out soon if is true that black is the fastest color, lol

Do you wrench on your own bike?

You found a hat to match!!

Your scoot is beautiful. But I really liked the red tank; it was eye catching.

I know, it was eye catching. Eventually I'll switch back to her original color, Persimmon Red. Red is actually my favorite color, we'll see. Maybe this black will grow on me.

Looks good, KO. I haven't had a bike in a shop for over 40 years. I learn something new with each different machine I buy because they all present different maintenance challenges. The 14 is my first EFI motor and first one with shim-under-bucket valve clearance adjustment. Gonna have some fun this winter!

COOTER, it looks like a "red" fork tube but is actually the inspection sticker.

Danno, the first and only time I took my bike (Yamaha DT-175) for repair at a shop they charged me too much money just to replace piston and gaskets. I've been working on my own bikes since then.

I used to bitch and complain when Kawasaki came out with the shim under bucket design on their first KZ-650. A pain in the ass to service, but it has proven to be a very reliable design. Especially when using high lift cams and ported heads.

Sure, though I must admit I am hesitant to get into anything too big during the great riding weather we had this summer. Mods and such have a way of taking a lot more time than expected.

Rook, I completely understand, especially when parts are backordered and take longer than expected. I wish I lived in a warmer climate so I could ride more often. And I am surprised you are not creating your own "HOW TO" books. You have developed the most comprehensive motorcycle instruction guides I have ever seen.

Nice job. I love working on mine too. The Internet ( especially this forum ) makes it possible to fix or upgrade just about anything on these bikes yourself. I also enjoy the extended family of sorts ( as dysfunctional as it may be at times ) involved with the forum.

I used to work on my bikes. I did all the carbon fiber (including fabrication where needed) on my ZX14, and triple tree change to mount an LSL handlebar kit, etc. Knew her pretty much inside out.

When I turned my Z1 into a drag bike, I did the engine work including new cylinder barrels, boring, new liners, new pistons, new crank, etc.

But my war injuries have continued to degenerate, and I can barely stand to get down on the ground anymore, and once is all I can do in a day. So I don't do much wrenching anymore.

For my 2012 Concours 14, I purchased a maintenance contract for 3 years, so I'll just let the dealer do the work. Heh.

Privateer, I've seen those carbon fiber bodywork parts for the ZX-14. They look great, they are also very expensive.

I remember reading about your ZX-14 and some of the work you performed when I joined this forum. And I don't blame you for not wrenching anymore. I am not 25 anymore, and have some health limitations. So what it used to take a few hours to accomplish now take me a few days. Thanks for sharing.

I hear you, one of these days hopefully I'll attend one of these events.

Took my bike to the office this week, and for some strange reason people asks me if I got another bike, lol They also seem to like the all black color scheme, got many compliments on the color change.

Craig, I love jean jackets, don't wear them as much as I did when I was younger. Glad to hear you are back on the road again!
