So who was it?

GOLDENDALE, Wash. - A Vancouver, Wash., motorcyclist was clocked doing an incredible 152 mph when he blew past a state trooper on a winding, two-lane highway near the Oregon border.

The trooper said he was working a stretch of Highway 14 near Maryhill on Sunday afternoon when he spotted the motorcyclist barreling toward him at high speed in the opposite lane.

The trooper quickly took two radar readings of 152 mph from his forward-facing radar, and a third reading of 151 mph from his rear-facing radar after the motorcyclist zoomed past him.

The speed limit in the area is 60 mph.

The trooper did a U-turn, and pulled the motorcycle over. The motorcyclist was later identified as Matthew M. Jackson, 39, of Vancouver, who was riding a 2008 Kawasaki ZX1400 motorcycle.

When the trooper asked Jackson if he knew how fast he was going, Jackson said, "No idea. I just opened it up."

The trooper explained the potentially deadly result of hitting a deer or running into rocks at that speed, and it appeared Jackson understood the seriousness of the situation, the trooper said.

Jackson was issued a $411 speeding citation.

The Washington State Patrol says high speed is one of the leading causes of serious injury and fatality collisions -along with driving while intoxicated.

"Eighty percent of fatal motorcycle collisions are now the fault of the rider," said State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste. "Half of fatal collisions don't even involve a second vehicle."

"Half of fatal collisions don't even involve a second vehicle."

Pretty sobering statistics.

Jackson was issued a $411 speeding citation.

$411 is nothing. I wonder what happened to the guys drivers license and insurance.

The rider could have gotten a mile down the road by the time the cop turned around. It was a wise choice to not flee.

Scanning back through the posts here, in the relatively short time this board has been active, I see many candidates for this category.

Everyone has a "it won't happen to me" attitude, which of course doesn't stop it from happening.

$411??? is that a joke?
I live just north of the border in Vancouver B.C. If you get caught doing that kind of speed here they impound the bike and take you to jail! I think I will take the 20min drive to the border next time I feel like opening up the 14. $411.00 isn't cheap but I would still have my license and I don't think my Canadian insurance is affected by U.S. tickets.
Or I could stay within the speed limit and increase my chance of survival. Anyone want to trade a ZX14 for a CBR125?
Rock.

I'd say you got off easy. Sence he's from Canada would he really even need to pay the fine. They can't take away his driver's licence can they?

I would be very surprised if most ZX14 owners hadn't gone that fast on public roads. That's why I have a radar detector and a laser jammer. I think that sometimes, we all go as fast as we think it is safe given conditions, which IMHO is much faster than 100mph (on certain roads, at certain times, with certain traffic or lack thereof). If you get caught then you have to be prepared to handle the attendant difficulties: loss of money, bike, license, and insurance are the most likely although loss of liberty (jail) is also possible.
In other words you pays your money and you take your chance.

I don't think health care does much if things go wrong at 150+. they just scrape you up and call it a day.

Free healthcare!!! We still pay for health care, at least in Alberta we pay Alberta Healthcare.... And we get taxed to shit so I am sure some of that goes towards healthcare!! With the amount of time you wait in a city hospital, you would rather pay the extra dough to go to a private hospital.... I have never walked away from a clinic or hospital without paying for something they consider "extra".. and yes at that speed they send the meat wagon and scrape you up!!!

Nothing about the post surprises me. Very easy to reach that speed on the 14 (and still feel safe depending on conditions). And you know you can cut that speed in half in just seconds. I went an indicated 160 on a sweeper above Lee Vining and it was too easy. After riding a '79 GS1000 for the last 30 years, it was the fastest I've ever gone.
Now these guys that go 90 and 100 through the canyons up here......that's scarier. Like it's their own personal race track and nothing can happen? Of course, some go down and some don't get back up at all.
