240 and a 4-6in stretch
07/12/11 12:29 PM

sooo has anyone stretched and gone with a fat tire kit?? if so what is the stretch and how fat of a tire... debating a 4-6in stretch and a 240... not sure if I'm really going to do it yet or not... I love the stock ride, leaning in the twisties and the amazement on ppls faces when they see the bike lay down so easily!!

what to do, what to do???

I love the look of the bling stretched bikes, but I wouldn't have one if it was given to me, because the first time I went up into the mountains I'd drag something hard and low side it.

I will give you some firsthand experience. On my 2006 I had a 8-10 inch stretch with a 300 fat tire kit on the bike. I am in Florida where most of the roads are flat, but there are some areas with some nice twisties. My buddy who is a very experienced bmw rider was absolutely amazed at how fast and low I could take the corners. He was in the lead and said " I was trying to leave you and couldnt!!!". Now granted most of our "twisties" are sweepers, we dont have alot of quick switchbacks or anything like that around here. In those kinds of turns I would have had my ass handed to me. So for mountain type roads, I would not do it. We are moving in 2 years to NC about 15 miles from the dragon so I just sold my fat tire kit and went back stock. But if your area is like mine and you can ride pretty good then go for it. Almost everytime I went riding I had people saying " how the hell do you turn that bike like that?". They would always say how crazy it looked seeing that bid ole tire sideways up in the air.

Privateer -- I use to feel the same as you!! I liked the look, but wanted to ride my machine how it was meant to be ridden.... but on Sunday I was riding with a couple Busa and a GSXR 1000 who both had 240 kits and their stances were so nice and the fact that the Busa was definitely right there with us the whole time....

Cbibb -- thanks for the input definitely helps bc although the Busa was right there along with us we weren't riding any serious twisties ... there are some mountain type roads and i definitely want to conquer the dragon eventually so I have more debating to do..

Never really wanted to go the route of the fat tire kit, until I saw the stance on the Busa...
