Question about the Battery Volts reading on the Instrument Communication System.

What does your ZX-14 read while riding? The Service Manual states when using the hand tester (multi-meter) the reading should be 14.2 - 15.2 V. Mine reads 13.7 to 14.1 on the Instrument Communication System while riding.

Is it that far off? I only have a little over 450 miles on it and use a Battery Minder when not riding.

So far the battery isn't giving me any troubles I'm just wondering if the Instrument Communication System reading is low from what the Service Manual says the Battery should be charging at or is there a potential issue.

If you are loading other than stock, she will knock down a little is that other load with the key on. I run 14.2v. So if you are running 14.1v, you must be using a lot of brake light in traffic, an accessory, or just within spec is your ambient against my ambient.

Tell ya watt trivia... To kill a battery within hours worth of a 1/3 of the day is say; if just the brake light stayed stuck on?

Nope, all stock and mostly out of town riding. All seems well as far as start up, just wondering if I should be concerned about the lower numbers as I learn about my new ZX-14. Thanks for the reply Hub!

I never gave it much thought until I read this thread. I run between 13.9 and 14.2.

You've got to wonder also whether the stock gauges are spot on. On other bikes I've hooked up my Fluke to various sensors and found, well, lets just say found a pretty wide discrepancy between readout on a meter and readout on factory display. I almost don't want to know. I'll guess that the voltage we're seeing on the dash is ok, though I'm going to watch it as the temperature gets warmer here.

i sold my 06 zx14 that i had from 06-2012. needless to say, i missed it. so 2 months ago i bought another red 06 with 8200 miles and am glad i did. but i didn't get an owner's manual with this one and i am having trouble resetting the trip meters. i think i'm doing it right not sure because its been a while. but when i push in both buttons and hold them in the screen goes to the choose language mode instead of flashing the trip meters on-off-on-off so they can be reset. has anyone else had this problem?

he would have ridden a zx14

Press top button to display trips, press bottom button till the trip you want to reset starts flashing, hold the bottom button in till it resets.

sometimes I show as much as 14.4 going down the road. maybe this is because I have HID's? I read they draw less amps than the regular lights.
