I know it's any ugly reminder...sorry but I felt I should post this....for me as well.Sometimes I feel invincible on my Big Bike....I'm not.

Thanks Grn. Keep an extfa keen eye out this time of year when the cages are not accustomed to looking out for us. I get cut off like i'm not there at least once this time of year.
also remember that just because your on a tiny vehicle that does not mean that you can't hurt anyone else.

Wow very serious video 50% of the wrecks are cagers and the other 50% look like the wrong time and place for the kind of speed and maneuvers they these guys were doing. Terrible to see this stuff happen . This is the worst time of year also cagers arnt looking for us so ride defensively good rides to all

Gotta say most of those crashes looked like giant brain farts, morons going too fast in traffic and general idiocy. I realize shit happens, and something could go wrong at any time or place, but fer chrissakes, you have to have at least a functioning brain stem to be able to ride without falling down at the drop of a hat. Looked like a bunch of pinheads with no clue as to how to ride.

Thanks for the reminder, Grn.
I was just thinking (!!) the same about my own driving, just this morning.
I reviewed the ride in, in my head, and noted *way* too many mistakes I made, just in one ride.
So, yeah, thanks for the reminder. I'm with you.

Green, we can all ride at the top of our game, but statistically it is an inevitable outcome. I've seen some crazy things in my many years of riding, and each time I came close it was because of a motorist that was not looking or executing a tremendously stupid action.
Shiny side up, friends...

Indeed gents, be careful out there. We just had one of our developers at work die last week. Unfortunately his own fault, tried to pass a bus over a double yellow, bus didn't see him and turned in front of him (bus was perfectly legal) and he hit it dead on at high speed. Never had a chance. Granted the guy was a bit crazy on a bike and just upgraded from a 250 to 600. One mistake (this one his) and it's game over.

Yup...sorry to hear that...I came close twice so far to that kind of deal myself....SO....I started looking well ahead on the left lane(oncoming)for turn ins for side traffic(if I'm planning a pass)....very risky to pass without doing that. They'll turn right ahead of ya...most of the time...without a blinker or even realizing you're back there coming around.Here...the turn-ins usually blend very well with the shoulders...so it's hard to recognize one coming up at speed. It wouldn't be their fault either if they turned and you nailed em....

I shared this before...but as 'unlikely' as it was...I was following a Van...with my 07...HID's on HIGH.Followed him through some nice sweeping canyons for at least a mile or two.We were coming up on a bridge. He was well up ahead,so I wasn't like tailgating him.He put his right blinker on...fine...I maintained 70 or so.The bridge was coming up,and there was a pull-out on the right shoulder ahead. He pulled over into that...and just as I was approaching,he U-turns.No signal...nothing.I had no time to do much...I gave er a bit of gas...and weaved into the oncoming lane...I JUST missed his frontend as he was now 'broadside' and still moving.Had I been going any slower...he would have got me....I crossed the bridge(it was a left hand curve)...thankfully...no oncoming cars.He never even realized what he had almost done.It was a wake up call for me fer sure.I 'assumed' he saw me behind him all that time...with my lamps a blazin....nope....totally oblivious I was there.I managed to glance in my left rearview(while keeping my vision up front) as I continued onto the curve...he never even stopped or anything...made his full u-turn...I was gone by that time.5 more inches..that'd been it for me.

The other day I was splitting lanes coming and going to visit to buddy that kept his bike upright, but still caught it in the leg and busted his wrist all to hell. We just got off the phone. He's going under the knife for that wrist tomorrow. Said he had time to think to take his hands off the bars or not. Hindsight is a bitch.
Yep, greenie, was courting a honey and had a few bottles of wine to try. Stuffed me work shirt in me work pants, slid the bottles down me chest. Car makes a U-turn out of nowhere. I brake for it. Never carried anything down there again but dry sub sandwiches: hold the condiments, hold the glass, here I come on my ass.

Phantom, sorry to hear of your co-worker. Your mental perspective on how you ride affects your survivability. And as everyone pointed out, luck on your shoulders also affect survivability.
I had a brand new R1 and was coming home from work when a boat (Buick LaSabre) pulled into my path, in the on coming lane. I moved into the next lane and the LaSabre pulled into that lane - on coming - head on). Rode up on the sidewalk and watched the same vehicle mount the curb and change direction. All l I saw was an old woman with white AfroPuff hair. Turns out she had a stroke while driving and became disoriented. But it demonstrates the point, whether you're at fault or not, there are so many possible endings...
Stay alert, ride defensively and be careful...

I see those videos as motivation to be extra careful when upping the pace... not slowing down

Oh and did I mention as I was heading home, I'm tagging lane changes seeing a gap open up. Here I am in the slow lane where most peal off or when they get on, immediately head for the fast lane, so I see a pickup truck up ahead pulling boat. I'm far enough back to see smoke come off the tire. And when I said that looks like it may blooooo... BOOM!
I see this shit fly all over the place. The tire explodes off the rim, flies up in the air. The hot air out of the tire, blows all this shit across the freeway. Here I am on shebootie, and she squirts over to the left lane, the debris is now X to my Y all squared heading right towards my path, I'm still at an angle avoiding it. Here comes the tire carcass all in one long carpet, plops on the freeway, the rest of the shit is coming down with it.
Missed my assoooooooo close but no sea gear with this beauty of a beast.
Quick decision make'inn motherfucker or deadizz you!

I wanted you guys to know that I really do pay attention to stories like these (the entire thread has good stuff).
I tend to give them a fine scrutiny read to determine if there's any take away.
I'm standing on your shoulder's, guys, your writing efforts are not wasted.
Thanks...
Bob
