Good PSI for Michelin Road pilot 2 ?
03/04/10 1:11 AM

Just changed to the Michelins based on several comments here.
I always ran the stock tires at 42 as the manual says. So I asked the tire shop to put in 42 in the Michelins but they said 42 was the maximum pressure rating and you shouldn't run at the max' which I agree with.
So I said what did you put in and they said about 35 is what they put in all the sport bikes. Well, I got the bike back together and haven't ridden yet because of the weather but when I pushed the bike around in the garage (fairly smooth concrete)I didn't like how it felt at all. Way too "grabby". I checked with my gauge which is pretty accurate and it said there was only 32 in the front and 34 in the rear (2 weeks after they filled them). I put in 36 which felt better just turning the bars end to end.
Any of you have the same tires and a suggestion what to run? Not sure why the Michelin's have a lower max' rating than the stockers.
If you generally prefer higher PSI, how close to the max' rating would you go? When I get a chance to test I will but right now I'm thinking of 38 front/rear to start. With the stockers though, I could feel quite a difference from 42 down to 38 and I preferred 42. I never did look for the max' rating on the 014's. The max' rating is measured with a COLD tire I assume?
Thanks for any suggestions.

I run my PRII's at 38psi rear and 40ish front. If I'm going on a long distance ride, I back the front down to about 37psi cold for the added comfort factor.

BTW, at 38 psi in the rear tire, I have still cut a 9.78 with minimal burnout. I love these tires !!!

Run 40 front and 40 rear, great grip , great milage, and will hold up those side walls if you hit something , pot hole , lump of wood etc, all the time all conditions.

I appreciate the replies.
I'll go with 40/40 and maybe try as low as 38 and see how they feel. Thanks.
