Need a little help with a PCIII usb please
10/06/09 6:32 PM

I have limited experience with the PCIII usb such as the one that was on my bike when I bought it. I had a feeling that I may have either accidentally screwed the loaded map or something changed when I did my HID install (a ballast was leaning against the 3 buttons on the front of the PCIII) and I found something interesting today.

I exposed the PCIII and did a key on test. The led bar went up and back down then off. I was curious to see if it was reading the TPS correctly and seeing full throttle, but after it went through it's initial power up sequence, no leds were lit. So, I did it again, key on and a quick touch of the starter button. After I hit the starter button, I was able to see on the led bar that it showed throttle position. The bottom led was lit as the throttle was at idle position. Then I rolled on the throttle to full and watched the led's climb up the bar. I had to do it quick as the unit saw that the engine was not running. When I went to full throttle, the lit led went only 2 up from the top.

Doesn't this mean that the PCIII isn't correctly synced with the TPS? I ask this in this way because when I roll the throttle on from let's say 4K rpm, 3/4 & full feel the same.

I contacted the previous owner and got a clean copy of the map that was loaded into the bike and I'm almost ready to load it in there but I had this question first.

Also, what it the "right" method to sync the PCIII to the TPS? Is it done with the laptop? I have to pick up the usb cable on thursday so it looks like I'll reload the map this weekend.

Thanks in advance.

You need to download the software from DynoJet's website.
http://www.powercommander.com/powercommander/Downloads/powercommander_iii_usb_downloads.aspx
If you have a digital camera the USB cable from it may work.

How to thread for calibrating the TPS.

1)The LED on the throttle position (on the Powercommander)WILL NOT GO UP TO THE TOP.Don't even go by that.2)Your "fuel mix" settings won't move even if you press on them by hand AFTER you've set the settings according to the instructions. They can only be changed by doing the buttons/key on/start operation. To change-you turn key on while HOLDING THE THREE BUTTONS IN and START THE BIKE(keep em held in until after she starts). Then you can change the LOW,MID and HIGH settings.Once you have them like you want-then you allow the engine to run at least 30 seconds without touching anything.Shut the motor off.Now your settings will be set in the Commander.Every bar drop or raise is 2 percent. They will stay like that UNTIL you REHOLD THE THREE BUTTONS WHILE STARTING YOUR BIKE.Unfortunately-the usb tip that goes to the Commander is shaped A LITTLE DIFFERENT than your standard USB plug. You might be able to bend the little outside metal part of a "standard" small usb plug-but I don't know.I tried a digital camera usb cable-no go-the male end was not shaped the same as the female Commander connection.Fortunately,I found my old PCIII cable.

Blue,

I'm not "tweaking" any current map loaded. That's the problem I have already is that I think the map I have in there got screwed up. I do appreciate the tips of operation though. Thanks. I just want to make sure that the TPS is spot on first. I have no instructions in what I'm doing other than what I can pick up on DJ's website.

I had always thought that the led bar indicated both mixture and/or throttle position. Hmmm.
