It is difficult decision. It is totally depending on your financial situation. If I were you, I would go with the new one as a quality paint job is pretty expensive and on top of it it is hard to find a good/qualified guy to do it. I don't modify my ride that much. If you gonna modify heavily, I guess the paint job can be part of it to make ZX look totally custom.

Keep in mind I'm a cheapskate, but I'd be in the 9's for a 2013 if
it was in excellent condition. I'd be looking at the 13 for 9's minus any
repairs, so prob be what like 7's for the 13 or else the decision is
easy, get the new bike.

You're $2,900 apart before repairs (and have a warranty too.)
Minus repairs, (your labor) and you are not that far apart.

9.1k plus repairs to much in my book.

It's not that hard to find great deals on used mint ZX14R's if
you're a little patient.

The financial little guy on my right shoulder would rather spend the $9K and HOPE to be happy.

But ... I HATE buying used vehicles ... somehow I always regret it. So the little evil spender on my left shoulder almost always wins. And when he doesn't, well, as I said, I usually regret it.

That's what I am afraid of. Then I start thinking if I am going to buy the 15, I should wait for the 16 and spend another 1500 and get brembo's, braided lines, and a color I actually like....... Darn it! Going to end up paying full price again!!!

On the new one add the freight, dealer prep and taxes and it a lot more than $12K prob more like 14-15.

I agree with Piken $9K is to much for a dropped bike that needs $1K of paint (this seems very high), if it was perfect maybe $7K would be a good deal if the bike was solid.

2013 zx14r abs used
2300 miles

Crashed = 8,500 + tax
On the penis penetration scale 1 to 10 inch = 8

2015 zx14r abs new on showroom floor
$12k + tax

PPS says, $11 and he should thank you for getting it off the floork that shit = 5.

Mods:

I want a 4-6 inch stretch
full Brocks setup
Carrozzeria and Galfers with steel braided lines
Windscreen and few other cosmetics

Used:
Strike 1. You do not know how it was broken in and that makes or breaks a bike.
Strike 2. Crashed or tipped over is somewhat tweaked w/scratch. Damaged goods so I changed my mind to 8k.
Strike 3. The service interval of the bike being in question. Choose the chain to the oil this and that. Where we at?

New:
A 13 uses the same head so I'm going to assume both have the same part number.
The 15 uses the same ABS so say both bikes are interchangeable.
The used '13 has basically the same performance vs. a new '15.

No brainer.

Hum, I just thought:

Sell: I come to sell it outright.
Dlr: 7,420 is in good condition says book.

Sell: It has 2,300 miles.
Dlr: It's crashed covered and book says 'good [not crashed] condition.'

Sell: So all it's worth is book trade-in? I'll take it.
Dlr: Hold on to your peniscale, fella, not so fast.

Sell: Oh here it comes.
Dlr: My bank says it's worth this uncrashed, so I can't floor a crashed bike for 7,420 let alone buy it for that price.

So now I agree with crud for 7k, because no dealer buys a crashed for book. Or I sure would not.

IDK?? If you want the bike in perfect condition???...1k is about what I paid to restore my busa after a driveway tip over. Close to that anyway. At least 800 and i left a couple real minor scrapes for touch ups. mirror, lever, bar end, kick stand, maybe and engine cover. Side, lower, tail a/o forman (def forman on the Gen1), fender, maybe the upper got touched. Kruz got a thousand from insurance for his driveway tip over. New paint job will be a thousand. and you'd probably want to paint the whole thing for perfect color match.

This bike has 2300 miles and it's a 2013. With the damage, I'd say 6000 would be a great deal. 8000, is not bad. Yeah, 9000 is a little steep but not like you're getting totally raped. Bikes have come up in price in the last 5 years.

The mods you want will pretty much void your warranty on the 2015. Anything more than slip_ons and they won't cover your engine.

2015 is the way to go imho. If your local dealer is a good guy it doesn't matter which mods you have.... They can warranty whatever they "want" to for the most part. Buying something that has been dropped might save you a few bucks but you really never will know the history or abuse. Having a warranty and new is always nice. But hey, it's your $$$$$, buy what you want and take a chance if yo feel lucky.

I'd buy used but only for real cheap. That way, if you do find a problem you won't feel like you were ripped off. I do think the market for low miles bikes is probably a little more in favor to the seller than it was years back though.

I lowballed the crap out of the last bike I made an offer on. It was a 2014 R-6 with only 250 miles. Brand new but Was crashed. Broken clipon and all the rest. He was asking 6500. I offered 2k because I really think it was $4000 worth of parts or darn close to that. I would have considered coming up to 3k. He didn't even bother to talk about it. Too bad for him, the bike sat outside the rest of summer and fall right into early winter and most likely is stored inside now (I would hope) and still unsold. No way I'd take it for 2k$ now. There's a learning experience for buyer and seller both. I'm out nothing and he's still stuck with his wrecked and now rusted, insect infested pile of junk. I think you're best to hold your ground on a low price. Look in a small town where nobody buys sport bikes like where I'm at. Just don't buy one that's sat outside for 6 months.

I agree. Go with the '15. It's what you really want (it's clear as glass to me), and probably the best option.

Thanks for all the opinions guys. They have made me realize that the used bike is not worth it. Now I am either going to wait for a super deal on a 15 or if I cant find that by the time that the 2016's arrive I will be getting an SE. Will be up in Cleveland for the IMS at the end of the month to sit on my new ride!!!!
