Buh buh buh...crickets...

Well, I guess the emergency battery I bought 2 years ago to get home from Crater Lake just gave up. It had been cranking a bit slowly lately, so I checked my charging voltage and it was reading a good 14.1-14.3 volts. So, it's 5am, I unlock the cover, unlock the 4 other locks, pull the bike out, relock all the locks and cover to the pole, put on my tank bag, put on my gear, turn ignition on, hit the button and I get 3 decent cranks and everything goes dead. So, push bike back in, unlock all the locks, relock and cover the bike, stomp back into the house and take the keys to the frigging Focus. I haven;t looked at it at all yet, I don't have money for a new battery and I don't want another cheap one anyway. So it' going to sit until I have the moola for a Shorai. And for more laughs, my son's bike's charging system failed so I have that to fix AND the tranny on my truck is doing some strange things...I'm going to go cry now.

Speaking of batteries. It's been stated here 14Rs need their certain type of battery (forget the term). Is it ok to use a lithium?

You have some stuff to keep you busy while you scrape up the money for a Shorai.

geese .... 3 lbs, 8 lbs bfd on a zx14' I would get an AGM on sale at cycle gear over their Labor Day weekend sale or bike bandit has one for $60 and go riding.

I'm not aware of any special requirements for a ZX-14 battery. They come from the factory with a standard-sized unit from Yuasa. You can get these almost anywhere. Lithium? I'm sure one would work although you would need to fill the empty space with something to keep the battery from flopping around. But that would be wasted money in my opinion. Sure they are lighter for the same capacity but a LOT more expensive. I doubt you're going to notice the difference unless you've already pulled every non-essential item off the bike to save weight.

If you're like me, the majority of excess weight is on top of the seat.

I run lightweight Lithium Shorai's on everything I own now, coming up on 4 years in service on the first one I installed in my '07 CBR 1000RR. I will not go back to overweight LA batteries.

LOL ikr? I'm losing weight, my goal is to be around 150-160 next spring. Since 1/2/12 I've lost 52+ lbs. After losing about 40 I stagnated for a while, but have gotten my second wind, plus honestly getting the bike has been some motivation. In the last couple months I've lost the other 12+.

I won't upgrade the battery to save weight. When this one dies, I'll plop down for a lithium to save the 10-11 lbs.
