Does this look right at idle? I kinda remember the RPM's to be lower?

1,000 ~ 1,100 RPM @ Idle.

Sit on bike so we speak left and right. On the lower left side, you'll see a steel knob hooked to a cable. This is your idle cable screw. It may be connected with a quick hoop to a drain hose. So, look for both those hoses and the one is for you to warm the bike for a bar or two and then set it at either rpm.

Yeah you're at least a couple hundred high there, Snuffy...unless that was on fast idle, maybe. Let her warm up and set the idle like Hub says. 1,050 - 1,150 is spec. I adjust ed mine just a hair past the 1. Helps with the clunk into 1st gear.

I thought so thats why a took the pic and asked because I remember it being around 1000rpm. Thanks Once again Rook and Hub!!!

Hub Just wanna Say Thanks for Your Original Advice when I tossed the piston back in July...You where so right to just bring the bike as is to the dealer and they would have to cover it. Kawasaki at first said there was never any problems with the ZX14 throwing piston 3 and that it would not be covered but when I told the dealer I have pages I copied from numerous forums showing that this is a problem 2 days later I got the call that all would be covered.

The idle speed changes as the motor warms up so set it when it's hot.

The shop probably set the idle high for initial start up because of the rebuild.

I notice my engine idles maybe 100-150 rpm faster when it is cold outside. Not real apparent by looking at the tach needle but I have seen the launch light flicker when it is set at 1200 rpm and the air temp is cold. That is after the motor is well warmed up on a cold day. Not a real big factor. I set mine and forget it no matter what season.

When these bikes were new, they idled a bit high, not sure why, I turned mine down too.

Got mine set approx' 1,050 rpm. That's what the factory manual suggests and how it came from the dealer when new.
Also, COLD start up rpm's rise to about 1,700 and settle down in about a minute. I don't touch the throttle or take off while it goes through this cycle.
