GETTING BACK INTO NINJAS
04/21/14 9:40 AM

I had a 2004 Ninja ZX1200, new. It was very uncomfortable and I traded for a 2007 Ninja ZX14. (Also new) I loved the bike. I made my own twin fan conversion and left it otherwise stock, but I injured my back and sold it. Now I'm ALL HEALED and am about to buy a 2014 green ABS 1400R. Are there things I should ask or be aware of before I do the deal? (My 2007 always ran hot and the engine was noisy) Thanks! I'm looking forward to meeting new friends.

This is the most flawless ninja to date. Zero issues that I am aware of.

I just picked one up today. You won't be disappointed. But I did notice the bike does seem to run warm.

If you read the Kawasaki marketing literature, the new design of the bodywork on the ZX14 is supposed to keep the hot air from the engine area (radiator, headers, and cylinders away from the riders legs better than the earlier ones. I can't say how well that works as my ZX14 is an '08.

But I don't consider mine to be all that hot. Of course my reference point is older bikes I've owned that, being air-cooled tended to feel much hotter.

But if that's your only complaint about the ZX14, get one today! That's a short list of issues.

As far as noise, you should be wearing earplugs anyway. Engine noise is the least of your worries.
