The all Hype BMW S1000rr just set a world record. A stock dealer demo bike meaning the one you get to ride when you go to the dealership just went 196mph. That bike might be a pipe,PC and a tune away from being a true 200 mph street bike. You have to admit that’s Impressive stuff from a 1000cc stock bike. The new zx10 is going to have to break the 186mph limit set by the big four if it wants to take that record away. Remember to thank the nice people at BMW when you go buy your next generation 200hp 200 mph Japanese motorcycle that will blow holes in its motor after a few 1000 miles just like the BMW. Now that’s change you can believe in right there.

Aww hell back in 2000 I believe a british mag took a bone stock busa up to 200.1 mph on Bruntingthorpe.....radared of course Not sure why they haven't did that run with a 14 or new busa derestricted tho? I still wouldn't want to come up against a BMW for some roll ons with a good rider on it though.....sounds like it might be some tough going

yeah I remember that bike wasn't it a "test" bike owned by Suzuki and after the test that bike was never found again nor did another stock one go 200 mph.

If the big four would dump the gentlemens agreement they could be there too. Thats what it's going to take, just "what the hell" and go for it. since 2000 they haven't been as worried about top speed and more focused on just getting there quicker. Maybe it's time for that to change

I never really understood that anyway. You can a dodge viper or corvette and they don't seem to be worried about government intervention.

All they need to do is make a bike that will do 200 and electronically restrict it to 186mph. No gentlemens' agreement would be broken.

Anytime you start increasing horsepower you sacrifice dependabilty and longevity. I'd rather keep a bike that makes 175 HP and is capable of 190 MPH than have a 200 HP 200 MPH bike that is questionable.

Look at any platform cars or bikes and then look at how dependability drops as HP increases. These are street bikes meant to be daily riders, so what if it turns 200 MPH how often are you going to hit that on the street and in the tight stuff that doesn't mean anything anyway.

I hope the big 4 don't compete, and just keep doing there own thing and forget about the Beamer
It cost 30 percent more and goes 10 percent faster, spend 30 percent more on ZX10 engine and the beamer is toast.
There will be no winners in a HP or speed war, it will give them a reason to put prices up, and the Government to introduce restrictions
If they have to go to war with the Germans I hope its a price war.

Quite true, heathun, in the 4 plus years I have had ZX14's I think I have had them off the speedo maybe 5 times, which is once a year on average. There are so few places you can do this and what's the point anyway? The first time it is a thrill, but then sanity sets in. I know that some of you "clever" guys are going to say what's the difference between falling at 300 or 240, but 300 indicated is a whole bunch different. And a whole bunch faster. The Beemer has just won its first double race in SA, but the Blade was right behind it and there was really nothing in it. Give em hell, Bad!!!

Awesome! We agree on something. Way to small for me. I have just read an article in our SA bike mag which said that they have brought out a bunch of laws in Oz banning biker gangs and rallies etc cause of the lawlessness. I gotta admit Willi thats the only stock first gen busa I ever heard of going over 200mph. Brock went over 200 in the standing mile on both a 14 and 2nd gen busa with just his pipe/power commander/map and some other little tricks of his like ceramic wheel bearings, thinner oil, but nothing major. I don't know if he's done that with his beemer yet or not. I'm kinda curious now tho lol. I haven't checked out that link you posted up yet but I will. That little beemer sure seems to run like a big bike doesn't it

I've always heard that 200 mph Hayabusa was a very specially prepared "ringer" that somehow managed to disappear before it could undergo tight scrutiny.

The BMW is fast, there is no doubt now but this is not a long lasting machine IMHO. It's going to run fast for a short time then blow a fuse......kinda like one of those Fourth of July pop bottle rockets. I'm already seeing a lot of complaints over on the BMW forum about durability. Maybe we can send 1Bad over there to rattle their cage a bit...ehhhh? To be honest, it's going to take something a lot more special than the S1000RR to make me fork over the big dough for another literbike. If it weren't for oil burning issues, I'd rather have a 2010 CBR 1000RR than the Beemer. It's a better all around motorcycle in my opinion and faster around a race track than the Beemer unless you're on one of those very loose Euro tracks with a pro rider onboard. Still top dog on the track after three years, they must be doing somethng right. Look at the quarter mile specs, down 25 HP on the Beemer and still within a tenth or so.
I think the Beemer is going to fade into history as soon as enough of them start to grenade and leave shrapnel trails along America's motorways.

Rook big brother would step it’s something about that 200mph number that would instantly make bureaucrats question how responsible the manufactures are being. The fact that a crash at a 160mph or a 200 mph crash will likely have the same results on the street means nothing to bureaucrats. Not to mention the insurance increase a 200 mph bike will bring. For some reason that number makes people panic when it comes to bikes.

True but let’s be real none of those specs really matter do they? Which is why there are three or four sport bikes I would like to own instead of a BMW and none of them are Jap bikes.

Last time I was at a Miller Motorsports track day, it was the full course. I think the front straightaway is about 3/4 mile long (?). I got up to 160 or so pretty quickly on that straightaway and just didn't see the point of going any faster in a straight line. The turns are where the fun is.

Early model bikes (like the zx11 mentioned earlier) and the gen 1 busa's will not reach 200, especially not stock.

The bikes that brock runs in the mile are very very very far from stock.

Man, you just said it right there BG, I don't even like straight line speed anymore if there's a corner nearby....what's the challenge? If your kid sister had the nads, she could jump on a Busa, or a 14 and run almost 190 mph.... twist the throttle and hang on...... zero skill needed, just huevos. It's the corners that have always seperated the real riders from the wannabes..it's that simple.

Same here BG, I got the 14 up to 160 on a two lane country rode chasing some crazy hillbilly on another 14. I finally decided it was a great way to die when I caught air going over a rise in the road and slowed her back down. Yea it's thrilling but at 160 it takes 4 times the stopping distance it does from 80 and there were armadillos and road debris to contend with..not to mention local L.E.Os. I have an absolute blast on the 60 to 90 mph sweepers on my favorite road now, way more fun, a lot safer and you're not doing "go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect two hundred dollar" speeds.
