New owner in need of advice!
01/10/25 1:09 PM

Hi everybody! This is my first topic here and I could really use some advice. Last August I bought a 2008 ZX14 and I have been in love! The community has helped as everyone seems super cool and helpful. Only issue is that the previous owner dropped the bike before selling it and cracked two pieces of the fairing/cowling on the right side of the bike. When I bought it, I hadn't realized the parts for plastics on these bikes are completely obsolete and nearly impossible to find. I know there are many aftermarket plastic companies I can go through, but the reviews I have heard about all of them are shaky at best. Does anyone have any advice on how I can get parts to make my bike perfect? Thanks in advance!

Great Choice! I hadn't realized new Gen1 OEM fairings were that hard to come by. The best advice I can give is check Ebay for used fairings of any color and get them painted when you can. Seek out the ones without cracks or broken tabs, don't worry about cosmetic damage. I bought fairings off of Ebay 8 years ago. With a little time put in, I actually found the right color and without structural damage. They're a lot cheaper than new OEM fairings too.

Another approach would be to buy a set of carbon fiber Gen1 fairings. That's going to cost you as much or more than you paid for the bike but it would be really cool. By the price of manufacturing carbon fiber parts alone, I'd almost bet any name you recognize has good stuff. Bestem is one that I remember.

...it's a solution. Looked into it a little and seems to me the difference in weight between CF and ABS plastic body panels is negligible when you consider the price. If you love the look of CF though....I'd do it. I might make my 2024 a complete CF bike someday.
