stop for police?
08/02/10 9:05 PM

If you were sure you had an excellent chance of escaping a cop......say on the other side of a median stopped facing the wrong direction and you were doing about a buck thirty but he saw you racing another vehicle and lit his bubbles up after you passed.....................but there was just no chance he was going to catch up to you and you don't even know if he was after you or could it have been some car on the other side of the road he was lighting up ...who knows??

Would you stop?
If you kept going....and you got away..... how long would it be before you felt safe riding your bike again?
Just wondering "what if," ya know?

Nah. Just wondering "what if."

I'm sure I would stop. Running could lead to serious consequences. I just wonder what other people might do if they take my bike for a test ride. They might get me in trouble.

...and everyone knows half the stuff people write on the internet is complete

I always stress that my more unbelievable stories are all in fun and mostly fabrications.

So-- how long would you wait? If it actually happened? Would you be concerned about getting busted after the fact?

I'm gonna slow down....cruise the speed limit.Turn off at the most secluded spot and wait(but not long.Have a smoke and that's as long as I would wait).....OR keep going, slow down and continue that way for SEVERAL miles. But run...NO WAY...say bye bye to your bike. They sure aint gonna chase ya onto the internet I'm thinkin. If yer a local...they'll know who ya are anyway. How many of us have 14's...not too many. They all know who I am here. And never had a problem sayin on the internet OR face to face that I've done high speed runs. They usually ask anyway "how fast will she go?"...and I tell em.They usually ask after that..."have you had er that high?"...and I tell em,"yeah, but not around here".They NEVER ask "where?".I don't ever want to give em the impression I'm tryin to outrun em.BAD....just bad. They can't do anything about the past. They know it,and I know it.Besides...the police here are cool. They understand something like owning the baddest bike in Big Sky and would do the same thing if THEY had one. It's not like I'm blastin around everywhere as fast as possible.Haven't had a speeding ticket now for 2 and a half years. Not bad for me.

Every cop in town, plus the County mounties and State Police know who I am.

When I first got the ZX14 they would follow me across town sometimes. They did that for a month or so. Guess I disappointed them or something...

Now, if I blow by one of them waiting for speeders, even on the other side, chances are they'll recognize the bike. There are 4 other ZX14s in western Maryland, but none like mine.

Speaking of which, any day now I should have my replacement license plate. It will still say ZX14 as the tag number, but it will have the disability wheelchair symbol on it. Can't wait for a meter maid to go around back to right a parking ticket on it (in a metered spot, like at work) and see if she notices the handicap symbol. "Get out of jail free".

But a couple of you pointed out an important point. If you run from the cops (define: "drive faster than they are when they begin pursuit" that is an additional, aggravating, charge, and can cost your license if the judge wants to take it.

I do not run. It is not worth my life and there be more of them than me. That is not to say I might not find a side street or an exit off the highway but if they get behind me I for sure pull over.

Yeah if they are behind you, they are obviously are in pursuit. Everyone is supposed to pull over.

Me when I was younger I would run but now that I'm older always pull over.

Quick story I was riding with a friend who also has a 14 and we were at a red light, light turned green and he was out I started to pick it up and just as I getting in to it a cop jumped in front of me looked at me and took off after my boy needless to say he got caught 4 tickets later.

Point is never a good idea to run...

I find every-time I've been pulled over as long as your legal you will get off now matter how fast your going. Once I pulled of at a 145 and walked away with no paper. Maybe it's luck but I will always pull over.

If they're behind you.

If an officer is in no position to give chase, i don't see how a driver would know to pull over. The only signal I know of that tells me I need to pull over is if the police car is behind me with lights flashing. I have pulled over every time that has happened to me. 3x on the 14 = 0 tickets.

Amen to that, slidder!

Also remember, in the larger cities at least, the eye in the sky is airborne quite a lot, and if they see you, there is no hiding. Zipping into areas with overhead cover only works in the movies. Heh.

well..Badzx14r..let me splain what I meant ..seeinas I have no clue what you are spoutin.
wrong 1 breaking the speed limit.
wrong 2 running from da fuzz

Here's the maddth.
1 wrong ...plus .. annudder wrong = 2 wrongs= you are now wrongerr= wronger = worser possible consequences..
see its easy!!lol.
(put that gun down!)

Now if you don't see speeding as a wrong cuzz you justify what is law according to you..
cool..then running is not wrong either ..Everything becomes a question of whether you can git away with it. Down there in Obamanation I guess you all do like your leader and ..make 'er up as ya goes and hang the law ya don't like.

I had to grin when you mentioned the disabled plate. My bike is currently wearing one from Louisiana, and has had one from CA on it. I have some comments, and looks over the years. Some very unfriendly when I am getting off the bike in a disabled parking space. Tell them to look at plate before they open mouth. Then they usually just walk away. The ones that are nice and ask, I tell them that the bike in general hurts my knees, which are the reason for plate, less than driving a box in traffic.

It's just one more facet that can make my day more interesting being out on the beast.

Rook.....faghetaboudit. If they had your license number they would have picked you up within an hour. Go ride your bike and enjoy, just slow down a bit and no street racing!

I have yet to see a bike faster than a Motorola radio.

Running - just not worth it IMHO.

"I have yet to see a bike faster than a Motorola radio."

You can't call in what you can't see.

I have left many cops pondering where I went, if a cop is directly behind me I will not take off but if I blow through a speed trap on the freeway its good bye flat foot.

In my younger days I got stopped by a traffic cop, so while I'm waiting on him I watch him in my mirror as he puts on his dark shades and grabs his ticket book, when he gets out the Chevy Caprice and comes up to ask for my license I pop the clutch and left him standing there with his jaw on the ground, so he runs back to his cruiser and tries to pursue me.

By this time I had parked my bike behind a building and stood at a bus stop while he blew by me with his lights and siren blazing, it was hilarious.

Hold on, HOLD oN!-----This is a hypothetical situation, Kruz . I never said a thing about leaving a Corvette in my dust dust?? That's way too risky. A guy could go to jail over something like that. Good thing no police will ever catch me pulling any crazy stunts like that.

True. However, a cop is pretty likely to have seen something memorable other than a lic plate #. I wouldn't be surprised if they make a note of the big ones that get away. He'll be watching for those who disrespected his authority the worst. They might have been better to just stop rather than have an officer who will conduct his own personal sting operation in vengence.

RuffRyda; I'm not saying B.S., but cops run your plate BEFORE they get out of the car.

Before your criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you do criticize them, you're a mile away and have their shoes.
