KHI K 528 differences KHI K 501 exhaust OEM slip on
03/22/14 4:16 PM

Hello group,

I'm new in the kawasaki team, after spending all my life in the blue team... loving this 2007 zx-14! but the one i got, had a few blemishes i'm fixing from being dropped in the right side...

So, i got myself another slip on exhaust can to put in right side. but the one that i got says KHI K 528 (E4), and the old one says KHI K 501 (E4)... i didnt mind much about it, as they look identical and the guy that sold it to me, told me that it was for zx-14 2006-2008....

and now, i just noticed that the exit hole is smaller in the KHI K 528 versus the KHI K 501.... you can match the oil cap to the hole of the 528, but in the 501 it will go inside... its like 1/8" bigger...

questions:
1. do you think it could affect the engine somehow?
2. do you know for what years/models is the 501 and for what years/models is the 528?
3. maybe the 528 is for California or something like that? or maybe not for zx-14 at all???

There are 4 individual pulses or fire offs. No 2 fire at the same time. Therefore, no 2 pulses will try to exit at the same time.

The header collects into 1 outlet, but there are 2 exhaust exits. Say the air splits in half. Half is one hole, the other is out another hole. Say the factory bumps up the HP about a horse. Say they open one set of ends as opposed to last years with 1 less HP and those were closed down some.

Will there be a slight difference? Yes, real slight if not all all.
Will it affect anything? No, not even one wink to lose sleep over.

'08-'11 exhausts are slightly less restrictive than '06-'08 to make up for the more restrictive header with the 3rd cat. If your replacement pipe fits on the header outlet, it should be alright.

I think he meant, "less restrictive than '06-'07"

Yes, you have a cat in the midpipe with the later model exhaust as well as one in the collector. Also the gasket between the collector and the midpipe is different between 06-07 and 08-11. The midpipe diameter is a little different as well as the exit. As long as it is sealing between the midpipe and the collector, should be no problem. If it does not seal. you need a thicker gasket.

yWelcome, pica. I was aiming for mud. Let me try again. JK

2006-2007 > No cat = Less restricted?
2008-Just in case the Busa comes out with something, we added a little bit more horsepower gain> Larger header w/cat = Where is the restriction if there is more HP, larger headers. etc.?
