New 14r Rims
02/10/14 9:04 PM

Just picking up a set of 14r rims for my 2010 blk silver special.
Wondering if people had thoughts on dipping them.
Wolfman suggested chrome dipping, but the weight savings I gained, just sailed with chrome dip. Or do I bathe em in acid and powder coat em? Or do I leave em alone. Man they are going to floss with the bike. I'll post up some pics of the rims when I get em.

Chrome is like Pazzow. With your colour scheme I just don't know. This is a tough one!

I think chrome would look great with your black and silver. Any coating that amounts to an appreciable weight gain on lightweight wheels, forget it. Why go backwards? If they are wheels you bought strictly for appearance, a few extra ounces won't matter. Really love me forged aluminum wheels and wish I could afford BST CF but have to tell you, the weight savings actually doesn't allow me to corner faster. There was way more power there than I am able to use in a corner and the light wheels make it just a bit more twitchy.

Experienced drag racers don't make lightweight wheels a top priority. They are a valuable refinement but not gonna make the bike accelerate a lot faster. It adds a couple hundreths / second to your 1/4 mile but you won't notice that on the street. I was surprised to hear but apparently it is so. As far as controlling the power in accelleration, again, the lightweight wheels become make the bike a bit more of a handful. The front will lift easier which is fun but not gonna make you go faster. Here we have the age old dilema of getting the power you have to ground. The more you do to increase power and reduce weight, the more the bike just wants to fly away like a kite with a broken string. The high tech race equipment is sure fun though. I am continuing to do weight loss mods on the 14 but I am starting to wonder if I haven't hit the point of diminishing returns some time ago.

if these are aluminum wheels, just have them anodized. You might email Carrazzeria USA and ask the guy who does their anodizing. He was willing to tell me last winter. This is some of the nicest juicy looking anodizing I have seen. I t actually seems to be a heavier film than some other anodized parts I have seen. Should weigh almost nothing. It's just a die that is electromagnetically bonded with the aluminum surface. It holds up very well. I have no scratches or chips from operating the bike.

Whatever you get, be careful who changes your tires after you get it done.
