Has anyone used the rack for a top case on the 14? I saw them on twisted throttle and I was looking for an affordable luggage systam for an upcoming trip. I didnt want to sepnd a lot of cash so it would have to be something like this or soft luggage.

Hi rebus. I haven't made the SW-Motech mod yet, but I plan to soon. Currently, I have the Fieldsheer Expander saddlebags and they fit really really well on my 14 with stock exhaust. The outside edge zips out to allow another 1 1/2 inches of stuff and they come with the straps for the tail bag later which is my plan. I got a real good deal on the saddlebags at newenough.com.

The saddlebags I use have hook and loop straps that I attach to the rear pegs and that u-shaped metal passenger helmet holder on each side. The saddlebags really don't move at all after securing them using these little straps. I'll post pics if you like.

if you are going to use soft bags mine wore thru the paint on the side panels , so I would suggest putting a couple of strips of duct tape where the bags contact the bike.

9 seconds, I guess using the factory cowl is out of the question with the rear rack? I have a sargent seat but its just the front so I have to have the cowl.
Looks like the most economical choice is the soft luggage. Thanks for the tip ortfab.

the cowl wont fit, so it just sits aside with this combo.

That looks like a good option too. Does it have straps that you wrapped around the seat?

I've used a Givi 52 Litre top case since I purchased the bike new. Now done 20,000 in 2 years, fun only, and wouldn't be without it. One note of warning, if you carry a pillion you may need to ensure you set the case a little further back on the rack to avoid it hitting the pillion in the back over road bumps.

Along with this set-up I've used both soft luggage and hard cases. The soft luggage was Oxford sports panniers. These fitted securely but the waterproof covers use to blow off so I put my clothes in waterproof liners when packing. Only real down side is the strapping on and off each time and the potential security issue if you leave your bike luggaged up and go on walk abouts. The big plus is low cost.

I know though use hard cases. These are the Givi V35 cases fitted using the sw-motech quick release racks. These are brilliant. Cases clip on and off, very securley in a couple of seconds, whilst the quick release rails take about 30 seconds to put on or take off. Easy and quick to put on/take off, stable at high speed, secure and comfortable for the pillion. What else could you ask for.

I can't imagine why someone would not like the LSL handlebars and risers. That allow about 3 inches up and 2.5 back. They are very high quality. They look good. If you ride in traffic or take long trips it makes all the difference in the world for your neck and wrists. If you don't like them IMHO yoou haven't tried them. I have gone well over 120mph with them and they ride great at speed. I have never heard anyone who has them say anything but great things about them.
Risers are nice but don't go high enough or go back at all.

The only down side is they are expensive (about $500) and take time to install. Get them and your back neck and wrists will thank you.

GSIS that is exactly wheat I am looking for. The only down side is I have to take off the seat cowl but I will have to do the same with the soft luggage.
Did you cut holes to mount it or did you buy the euro piece?

The top-case is fitted using the Givi E250 universal plate which is in turn fitted to the kawasaki rack (which i think is the same as the SW-Motech alu rack). THis was fitted by the dealer when i purchased the bike.
For the side case carriers all i had to do was cut a small square out from the edge of the under-tray on each side using a template provided to fit the upper rear carrier fixing brackets - easy. Nothing else needed.
