That's crazy.
Notoice they tell us oit is the lightest CF helmet on the market today but they do not tell us what it weighs. I bet it is a few ounces lighter than a Vemar which are on sale right now for under 200$.

Same game they played with bicycling helmets years ago. They started out with a styrofoam brain bucket that was solid molded foam and offered decent protection for like $30.
Then the mfgs started poking big "ventilation" holes in the helmets to improve cooling and save weight. We're talking a couple ounces of foam here and the more they removed the more it cost. Hundreds of $$$ for mostly air and almost no foam to protect your skull.
Stinkin marketing hype!

OK, let me get this straight here, $3500 for a CF helmet that saves what, a few ounces? Prove to me it's any safer than a $200 Icon that passed the same Snell 2010 certification.
This stuff is designed to separate wealthy idiots from their money....lol!

I think even top pro racers wear a $600 to $800 Arai or Suomy or whatever but that is just plain ridiculous except as a status symbol.
It's kind of like those $80,000, limited edition Desmocedicci race replicas Ducati sold a few years back. Gorgeous bike and exclusive as heck but a $16000 BMW would spank it on a track.

What was Cruise riding in that video? It could have been a Desmo but it didn't have the high pitched exhaust note.

Him and Brad Pitt got the first ones over, can these guys ride at all? $80,000 for a Desmo is really pocket change for these characters, like us buying a new tee shirt.

At fc-moto.de or whatever it is, I purchased my carbon fiber limited edition Schuberth C3 for under US$1,000 and thought that was obscene.....
That is obscene, I'm not even going to tell you what I paid for my last helmet...lol!

Go back and check out that vid Drag posted, I think Wee Tom was on his Desmocedicci. Look at the tail section, don't almost all Ducati's have an undertail exhaust with twin silences in the back? The Desmocedici had a different arrangement, can't really tell where the exhasut comes out but it doesn't have the signature Ducati twin rear exit silencers.

Confirmed, he was on his Desmo, look at the opening frame of that vid and comapre to the profile shot above, it has the white number plate on the tail section. What was he out riding a bike like that for at night in LA (probably drinking), isn't that thing made strictly for the track?

The Desmo exhaust exits out through the top of the tail piece. It has one large muffler under the tail with 2 exits running over some epoxy/ carbon plate. it comes with a "race" exhaust that, when fitted, sounds pretty good. I set up the first one our dealer got and got to break it in. My conclusions: It makes a TERRIBLE street bike. VERY stiff, VERY loud, VERY hot, Very extreme riding position. But, technically, it is a real beauty. I would love to ahve one if I had money to burn, but for street, the 14 is WAY better.

Sorry off topic but I couldn't help but thinking how much more spectacular Chad Reeds 2011 Millville getoff was compared to Wee Toms mishap. This guy gives whole new meaning to getting "big air"!

he's lucky he fell on that slope!
On second that if I had Tom or Brad kinda of money maybe I'll buy one (helmet and bike). Like you said the desmo is like buying a t-shirt, so the helmet... it's like me buying some socks... cheap ones at that. In their tax brakets, $800 isn't different from $4000. They start thinking when they get in the 6 figure. One thing though, If I had a desmo, I would make sure I get some lessons and practice until I can get in an expert group before getting one. Anything less and you look like an idiot. Imagine a guy on a harley beating you in the twisties while you're on 1. Then again Tom and Brad on CBR 600 doesn't add up. Imagine you saw them driving a camry!

Look at the rear tire chicken stripes, most of the guys who can afford these things can't even come close to riding them to their true potential!

I think the new 1199 would have that thing for lunch on a track....but let's face it, that ain't the reason they buy one of these things. It's like a 24 carat Rolex, a $99 Timex keeps just as good time but what are the ladies looking at?
