Hi everyone. To recap,My wife and I on the "KNGKAWI" and my son on his 91 CBR600F2 set off for Crater Lake Oregon from our home in the SF Bay Area last Monday. In short, the trip was STUPENDOUS! My son is 17 and has been riding street for less than a year and he rode brilliant. He is so smooth and confident already, positions himself perfectly regardless of highway or twisties, is aggressive on his passing when necessary, just rode like a pro. We had great weather and clear roads. Some snow still at Crater Lake but the roads were clear. We spent 2 days at the Crater Lake Lodge, right on the rim of the volcano and 2 days in Grants Pass where we rode the Rogue River Jet Boats. I did have one mechanical problem..My son's old F2 broke down, right? WRONG! When we were riding the West Rim Road at Crater Lake we stopped for a pic and when I went to restart...CLICK and all my lights went out. I got a weak oil light, then everything came back on but when I hit the starter button...CLICK, everything goes blank again. After checking all the fuses, ( and I must say the stock tool kit works pretty damn good) my best guess was that my battery had committed suicide. So, I left my wife with the bike and my son and I rode 2-up back to the lodge where we called AAA to have it towed back to the lodge parking lot. I took my son's bike and hauled ass 54 miles to Klamath Falls where I had called a shop and had them put a battery on the charger. Picked it up and hauled ass 54 miles back and after crossing my fingers, installed it in the bike. SHE LIVES!! Yay! So catastrophe averted. I also noticed in Grans Pass that my front tire was just about shot so I found a shop called "Rapley's Motorsports" and has a new one put on. Mark, the owner is a super nice guy and we had a great talk with him as he changed the tire.
Anyway, I'll post a longer story in "Ride Reports" when I get all the pics sorted out. But to all of you that havent taken your 14 on a long trip, DO IT! The bike is really good for this kind of stuff. We did just over 1500 miles and only about 90 was freeway. And bring your kids if they ride. I can't tell you how proud of my son I am. He was a great traveling partner. Talk at ya soon.
