Helibar risers. No difference?
07/10/14 3:27 AM

It's official. The Helibar risers make no... that's NO noticeable difference in the pain in my hands. This means that it must come down to adapting my riding style to gripping the tank with my knees and relaxing my grip. It works, but my brain hasn't yet grasped the concept. Strangely, I didn't have this problem on my 2007 ZX14. The ergos are about the same......

Get a throttlemiester...allows you to set the throttle and give your hands a break....steering with your fingertips only for however long you want.Allows you to sit upright as well when you're steering like that.It WILL make a big difference.

Do some push ups everyday and work in stretching before and after. Grip with those knees and flex ur core but relax your arms and hands. All will fall into place. I had some hand numbness, but I think that was simply circulatory. Upped my cardio and installed NastyNotch custom risers and she feel fantastic.

I put mine on today. Sitting on the bike I didn't really notice any difference. We'll see when I get some good weather to see how it rides.

What's the issue you're having?

If you wanna fix the bike - dump the helibars and look at Convertibars or similar. (Apex is another I've seen) that offer some HELLA adjustability. Like minimum of 3 inches and up to probably 6 or 7 inches of cumulative change with the rise and pull-back towards the rider. I have the Convertibars on my 14 and it's unreal. I about pulled a muscle in my jaw the first time I rode it from smiling so hard....a 200hp sport bike with ergonomics like a GoldWing. Very cool

If you want to fix YOU - ride the bike as if you are holding an egg in each hand between your palm and the grips. It sounds and will feel weird if you try it. (Note: Don't use actual egg). But the concept is that it takes very little PRESSURE to get the bikes controls to respond to your inputs. Throttle and steering are the lightest motions needed, clutch and brake require a little bit more strength but don't be too ham fisted and heavy on the bars. Use your core -abs, legs, knees squeezing the tank- you get the idea? Workout your body/mind and the bike will seem to improve all over as a result!

By the way, the most intense weight on your wrists and hands occurs under aggressive or hard braking. If you can avoid it, that will reduce pain. So yeah.....no more stoppies

"So yeah.....no more stoppies"...LOL!!!!...I noticed the SEAT on the 14R...from 2012 on up...it's shape is a bit angled more downward....that itself can cause one to be loading the bars up unless you're paying attention more closely.I'm 165...so it may feel 'more' angled to me than a heavier rider.I reshaped my new(2013)seat by carving out about a 1/2 inch going towards the bowl.THIS for me REALLY solved the 'being pushed into the tank' feeling. It's very comfy.Didn't lose any of the factory comfort.Took some out of the front area as well...not much...but some. Now when I'm riding 'forward',I'm not hitting the tank. And sliding back or cruising with it like this...it's 'flatter'...so relaxing is much better....meaning....my weight isn't on my arms and wrist now.Dropped the seat height approx 1".I also reinstalled my helis....that helped some.

(no more stoppies)...actually those will FORCE you to grip the tank and stiffen yer torsoLOL!!!

A set of Grab-On foam grips made a huge improvement for me.

if you are getting pain, it may be something else ... numbness is from vibration, I have tried helibars,
gel grips, ergo gloves etc ... and my hands are still getting numb, I still feel the vibration in the
bars ...

maybe balance the TB's will help a little ? thinking of filling the bar ends with vibration absorbing
gel or something like that ...

A helpful website to compare how one fits their motorcycle and what modification can make is www.cycle-ergo.com
I do not have ABS, but I added 2" rise and that got me 1" back. I used Buell Lightning Pegs. I added Foam grips and a 'Vista Cruise' throttle lock. I also added the Zero Gravity Touring shield.
