Non-Ethanol Gasoline
05/11/12 7:01 AM

Here I've been looking to find a non-ethanol 91 octane or higher pump within less than a day trip of me, and it turns out Bowman Trucking, whom I drive by several times a month (like 10 minutes from my house), has a full set of pumps that they weekly truck in ethanol-free gasoline for.

I guess if you are Dennie Bowman (local boy made good) you can truck in your own gasoline.

Going over there now to find the pump, pure-gas says its behind the headquarters building.

Anyone else have non-ethanol right next door?

When I go to Arkansas next month, there are 3 or 4 non-ethanol gas stations within an hour of Eureka Springs, and since we will be riding 4 and 5 hour loops during the week, lots of chances to fill up with the good stuff.

I've been using the new stuff from Sta-bil that not only preserves the fuel but takes the ethanol out too. Not as good as pure gas, but good enough.

There are a ton of sights on the internet that list by state, city, country etc where to purchase non-ethenol fuel. You can plan fuel stops by just using these sights. I found one here on the southern Oregon coast but the stuff is really expensive and they are not open on the weekend. There is no doubt that you get better fuel economy but for me the extra cost does not pencil out. I have read that 10% ethanol will account for 5% drop in fuel economy.

Not only is Bowman 10 minutes away but he keeps the price 10-20 percent below normal pump gas. That is just Dennie Bowman.

I use www.pure-gas.org or is it .com, it is a good site for this.

I don't want to nit pick, but it doesn't remove the ethanol. It also doesn't say it prevents ethanol separation, which is the primary problem. Star Tron claims it does, and everything else Sta-bil claims.

STA-BILĀ® Ethanol Treatment helps remove water, protects against corrosion, and cleans fuel injectors, carburetors, and intake valves to keep the fuel system free of gum and varnish and deposits.

You are technically correct, alg8er. Sta-bil Ethanol Treatment only claims to prevent the ethanol from corroding things. Technically, I'm alright with that claim.

But the important part of this thread is I'm stoked to have found cheap non-ethanol 91 octane fuel literally right next door and I'm wondering who else has close by non-ethanol fuel.

For the longest time, nobody knew Bowman was doing it, and if I had not seen it on pure-gas website, I still wouldn't know.

I am also going to switch my car to "Bowman" fuel, since his prices are across the octane range 10-20 cents lower than normal pumps in the area.

When I go to Arkansas next month, there are 3 non-ethanol gas stations close enough to be worth visiting, and 5 more that are on routes we will ride during the week.

I use ethanol free 91 octane too, but have to drive 19 miles to get it. Every so often I take six 5 gallon cans with me to fill them up. I use it in my boats and all my small engines.

I said I didn't want to nit pick. Just didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea. Gas around here is horrible. If I had non-ethanol close by, I'd probably still have the ZX11.

Not entirely true Scotty. The station just down from the State Police post has it. About .50 cents more a gallon then I pay for mid-grade though. I ran it the end of last season for about 12 tanks so she would be well flushed for the winter storing. I don't particularly care for it. My bike seemed a little flat and didn't get as good gas mileage, not the other way around. I am sure our maps could account for the differences in performance on different fuels.
