New "old" owner

Just picked up 2014 ZX14R Burnt Candy Orange/Spark Metallic Black today. I ordered it on the past Monday and it came in finally. I only rode 5 miles today but was actually surprised that ZX14R was really easy to ride. I am a new ZX owner but have been riding for 40 years. Hence, new "old" owner.

I'm 53, but my ZX-14 makes me feel 23.

I have ridden 16 long :) miles this morning, including city streets and freeways. What surprised me was how gentle ZX14R was. Acceleration was extremely linear and there was no surprise at least below 4000 rpm. Since I am still in the break-in period, I didn't go beyond 4000rpm and the engine setting was on L mode. The bike also felt very light, in fact much lighter than its real weight. My previous ride was 2003 SV1000N and ZX felt about the same. As soon as I install the radiator guard, I will start putting serious miles.

You'll find the ZX-14 engine makes power all over the rpm range, no surprises like on 600cc and 1000cc sportbike. The power just never quits and the "problem" is that if your wrist calls for WOT, the ZX-14 will deliver immediately. That can be a good thing if that really what you want but if you're just being stupid, you will pay for it!

Enjoy, the ZX-14 is a beast but if you respect it, you'll love every minute of riding it.

Welcome to the forum and the bike!

I did this too, followed the recommended break in. Yep, she's a lady if you treat her like one. The bike is plenty ridable and even quick up to 4k rpms, I had no issues accelerating quickly staying with in these boundaries. From what I can gather by peoples comments here (especially regarding flashing the ECU making throttle response smoother), the 14R is even a step more refined than G1 14. G1 14 I think also had a more peaky power curve, 14R seems to have power everywhere with just as much of a "peaky" power band, but it's not as apparent because of more lower-mid power.
