Oh, no
03/08/10 12:44 AM

The dreaded moment arrived! I was taking my baby out yesterday morning and I slipped and.....damn. Broken left hand mirror, middle and lower fairings scratched, and my pride seriously damaged. I was so cross I couldn't even get cross with myself. I think my butt came off worse when I landed on the garage floor with the bike half on top of me. I think that this saved her from more damage. I have never wanted crash bobbins, but now is the time. It is so disheartening when one really looks after something and silly things like this happen. Oh, well, thanks for listening. Cheers from a very hot SA.

Sorry about that Harley-well,get er fixed and it'll just be one more experience for ya!Glad it wasn't a crash with a cager or somethin like that!Don't feel too bad-I dropped mine over the far side when I was first lifting her with my PitBull rear stand-only thing that saved her from MUCH MORE damage was my Ma's parked car right there. She fell into that, only barely caught the midfairing(can't tell really) and broke the Zero Gravity windscreen tip off where it fastens at the very top screw(on the right side).Lucky it didn't break my fairing! It wouldn't have fallen quite as far had I locked the bars.At least it didn't slam into the concrete.Hit the car door instead and stopped it from goin all the way over.Got REALLY lucky on that one.

Thanks, Blue07, going through a bit of a tough time with a divorce and all and then this happens. Sh*t really comes down when it comes down. Maybe it was a sign to keep me off my bike? That's being positive in a bad situation, suppose. Thanks for the sympathy. Cheers.

Harley - I feel your pain. I did the same just a couple days ago. Had her idling in the driveway, walked into the garage for a second and over she went. Luckily it shut off right away because of the sensors and I also had the mid fairings off doing some other work. The casualties were the clutch lever and the upper fairing (big scratches and some cracks). I was so mad at myself, I couldnt even see straight. Stupid, just stupid.

Been there. Day 4 of ownership -- forgot to put side stand down. Really sucked. The damage is minor. You can probably polish most of it out of the fairings. I used some touch up paint to fill the pits and a couple polishing compounds to rub it back to a near perfect finish. I know how bad it feels to drop a bike at 0 mph - you feel like it was all your fault and it should have been avoidable. After a year it's no big deal. I feel pretty lucky to have gone down at the garage door doing 0 mph rather than on the street. Seeing the bike laying there on its side really leaves an indelible memory.

Maybe look into some cool Aftermarket mirrors or just order a new stock because the 14 does have nice looking mirrors already. Let me know if you need any tips on fixing the scratches. A layer of clear coat might just take care of most of the blemishing.

Hi, ROOK, no, can't polish them out. 1 x new mirror and to spray the fairings is R1143.00 mirror and R2000.00 for spray. At R7.3 to 1 USD is not too bad, I suppose. About 435 USD. The lower belly pan is quite badly scratched, and the middle fairing that houses the indicator is chipped on the edges, so no polish there as well. The guy doing it is pretty good so it should be as good as new. The stock mirrors are nice for me and I wanna keep the bike stock for when I sell it to buy a 2011 model(!!!). Hopefully. I am just very fortunate that none of the fairings cracked, or the upper one that the mirror attaches to, as this took most of the fall. Another week and she will be mobile. Also a good opportunity to clean behind the fairings while they are off. See, always something good out of something bad!

Forgetting the sidestand suck. My ZRX1100 was on a rear stand for cleaning the bike up and as usual I put the sidestand up so when walking around it I would not trip over it. Sure enuf I forgot to put it back down when I pulled the rear stand out so thump it goes left side to concrete. Mirror and clutch lever but I had extras so my pride for being stupid was hurt more than the bike.
It helped that it is a naked bike to start with so I just blamed it on halftimers disease.
