Splitting case with engine/head installed
08/22/25 11:45 AM

As title states. Thinking out loud here...

How do we feel about the concept?

My only concern would be the head being torqued down might twist or warp the top half of the case causing a bad seal somewhere when re-installing the lower half.

Background- I am thinking about my bike's future over the next year or so. It has a turbo and is already all built, save the transmission. I would like to get my transmission cut and polished at A.P.E. before I push more power and move to Maxx, if I go that route, and if I don't I dont know how long an already abused stock trans will last under turbo abuse. Everything transmission-related is in the lower case.

All logistical concerns ignored (like keeping the crank/rods from falling out), do we think this is a safe route?

Buddy built a Suz engine for a dwarf car racer. Told him to change out the inserts every other race or so, don't really know? Sure enough ate a crank and is at the shop now being rebuilt.

Turbo wise I'd pull the engine and inspect those inserts. I think the new kid on the block is to do some type of freezing of the trans gears. Ever hear of it? Another buddy just died and had it done to his bike or I'd call and ask where he had it done and the real name of the process.
