Yes, this is what was expected. What they sell to the public is simply a homologated race bike, instead of what Kawk has been doing for the last few years, taking a street bike and turning it into a race bike.
Between the great improvements to the C14 and the vast improvements to the ZX10R making it a real race bike, that is all the money Kawk has for engineering for the next couple years. Unless sales pick up significantly.
We love our ZX14s, but if Kawk puts engineering money into the model, what comes out on the other side is going to unrecognizable, and either much lighter and more sporting or somewhat heavier and more sport touring.
And I cannot even see that happening. Kawk would be unwise to blur the distinction between models they have so carefully created. What they have done with the C14 has garnered a huge and loyal following. I am amazed at the way Concours Owners Group spreads across the USA. They exceed the BMW group easily, and probably HOG too.
That is valuable real estate loyalty-wise for Kawk, and they will protect it by sinking engineering dollars in it to make the COG happy.
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see the ZX14 go away, and the C14 get optioned two ways, with the ability to switch back and forth if you buy the hardware. Since other than bodywork, and shaft drive, they are essentially the same parts.
