Can you swap an ECU from a 2006 to a 2008 or 2011 etc. I am asking because if I was going to have one flashed, so there would be no down time, I was thinking of buying one off ebay.

Gen 1: 2006 - 2011 Interchangeable = 1 shop manual for all years, yes? Then it says, follow said wire harness page so same prong placements line up wire to ECU prong meaning.
Gen 2: 2012 - 2014 Interchangeable = 1 shop manual and the ECU connectors are smaller and so is the ECU. Will not interchange with a Gen 1.

I asked Don Guhl the same question about a year ago.
His advice was not to use the 08 ECU for a 06-07.
There were changes made to the injectors, the head, and the exhaust which resulted in differences in the ECU.

I forgot about that injector change. Run an '06 injector with an '08 ECU and WOT runs about 11 AFR and loads up the bike if ridden lightly, meaning, blow it out some. You can do 1 of 3 things:
1. Ride it as is like I did with an '06 t-body running an '08 bike/ECU/ect.
2. Buy injectors to match ECU's, the body's have changed but not the injector's mounting and same size swapping.
3. Buy a pc instead so either injector combo runs with a (-) numbered tune or richen up the bike on the (+) side so as not to exceed an 85% duty cycle and cook or heat up the injector if ran 90/100% of its duty: then buy the 4 injectors.
It's so close I think the pc would dial in both. Ask Don that one. And my swapping the injectors showed a safe AFR no matter what size injector I had in either combo. The head is not going to affect the AFR or ECU per say. The ports do not send in a number for the computer to figure out that input. Flow change means nothing on the seat, but on a dyno, yes.

So as long as your flashing it, it doesn't matter as long as you stay gen 1 with gen 1. But if your not flashing than 2006-2007 is one, 2008+ respectively.Am I correct on this?
Todd, Man, we are so close between those two guys you could run this combo:
1. '06-440cc size inj with pc will be overkill using an '08 ECU.
2. '06-440cc w/out air cleaner, nor pipe would-not-need a pc using an '08 ECU.
3. '06-440cc is nice and rich/safe w/'08-ECU. And if you wanted to tune it lean, keep PAIR in place.
4. '06 injectors w/out PAIR will richen the bike even more.
A. '08-330cc size inj with an '06-E is a touring box swap. Leaner and Meaner.
B. '08-330cc can be richened w/out PAIR in place. It's a tiny richer and a seat of the pants notice.
C. '08 injectors will need a pc to be richened if used with an '06-E. I'd use something like an infrared hand held temp gun and shoot a stock running heated injector. I know that heat number should be about the same? If the 330 is going to cook higher, I consider that an aborted try or even money is even temp so she works leave it alone. Or tune again and test for too much cycling of the duty and it overcooks.
I. Flash the '06-E with an '08 cut&paste map over it = IF using 330cc's.
II. Flash the opposite if one is using 440cc's = C&P a 6-M over an '08-E.
III. Flash the 6-E lower columns with cells richer = Using 330's.
IV. Flash the 8-E lower rpm cell columns leaner = Using 440's.
Does that explain some of it, Todd?

Yes thank you for the break down. I am all 08, and would only swap an 00-6-07 ecu if it was cheap enough to keep my 08 ecu stock and flash the 06-07 ecu. I knew thwre was an injector change but flashing the ecu, I figured would take care of that as long as the person flashing it had the correct info for it.
