140 hp liter bike? Sure you got that right? Can't be. That's less than Honda. I'd just buy an older one if it's down that much on hp. Most liter bikes have been neck and neck with the 14 in the hp dept for years.

If that's the case, WTF are they thinking? The BMW, Ducati, and Aprilia nakeds are putting out full or near full power.

That's claimed, rear wheel more like 126hp top speed around 150mph

The Versys 1000 even worse at 118hp

Although I know a few people that have the N1K and really like it.

Might as well just get a zx10 and modify it. Claimed 200hp at 458lbs.

Wouldn't mind if my bike weighted 100+ lbs less then it does now.

As recently posted elsewhere on this forum, I test rode a 2018 Ninja 1000 this past summer before getting an '08 ZX14. HP was supposed to be in the 140 range but I never saw a U.S.dyno test confirming this number.
It did have more electronic features than the ZX14/ZX14r, but I did not like the engine characteristics of the Ninja 1000. It had a lot of vibration, esp. compared to the smooth ZX14. Also, the Ninja 1000 gearing was rather short, meaning it turned a lot of RPM for a given road speed. At 5,000 RPM road speed indicated was just under 60 MPH. The Ninja 1000 was turning same RPM at a given road speed in 6th than the ZX turns in 4th. The Ninja 1000 just felt busy. It did have a somewhat more upright seating position, but not dramatically so. The ability to mount integrated panniers and, finally, presence of cruise control on the Ninja 1000 are pluses, admittedly. Even though the Ninja 1000 has more features than the ZX14r, I just could not get past the bothersome engine characteristics of the Ninja 1000.
just my opinion-your results may vary

Oh now I get it, the Ninja 1000 is not a full fledged track bike like the ZX-10. I do recall there was a tamed down version of the Ninja in past years. I do not think they should call it a Ninja because it's not in the same league as the ZX-10.

I test rode the Ninja 1000 when it first came out. It seemed like exactly what I was looking for.
I found the bike actually kind of boring. Very similar to a (gasp!) Honda. Jumped off that one and
test rode a ZX14. Case closed.

If I was thinking about a new bike, this would be the one I'd be checking out.....

I really like it.

I owned a 2015 at one time it was a great bike. I ran a full system and a IVANS flashed ecu it made about 150whp and 80 ft lbs of tq. Its no zx14r but its in no way hurting for power and far better than a zx14r when the road gets twisty or you need to cover lots of miles over several days.

I am having second thoughts, had my14r dynode 189 HP, I am looking at about 70 HP sacrifice, when playing hard in the twisties. I never need to go past 4,000 RPM. But your saying the 1000 does better in the twisties, granted its about 60 Lbs lighter

It's a different kind of bike---smaller, lighter, comfortable, raised bars, luggage available. Not the raw power of the ZX-14, or the edgy nature of the ZX-10R. And yet, not a cruiser, not a naked, not a de-tuned liter bike, good low-midrange power. With a Pipe and Flash, plenty of power available.

Has some issues--can't change front sprocket(!). Helps to mount 55 series tire on rear for better turn-in. A Few guys have put 100K+ miles on them.. Also, Insurance seems to be high for some reason (any time Ins. Co. sees 'Ninja').

So, different strokes. Kawi just trying to get as much use of their 1K motor I suppose. Current owners are very loyal, older, like the bike, do not ride 9/10.

I sat on one and it locks you in 1 position. No way to move around like our Ninja. It is lighter but that screen is bogus. I'm waiting to see what Mama Kawa is going to build to replace the Concours.
Honda is knocking off $7000 on their Goldwings. Those are light off the side stand I was surprised. Still 800 lbs.
I may do a full Titanium Exhaust with one muffler about 40lbs. lighter. That's 540lb ZX14r.
