The last zx-14 I owned had a couple bolts instead of spools ....farther back on the swing arm and they where a lot bigger than 10mm.I am thinking of using those again ....10mm bolt just seem shaky to hold up this big of bike ....any thoughts?

i would not use just a bolt. Because of the rounded shape of the swingarm tubing, the ZX-14 requires a longer bolt to extend the spool out past the side of the swingarm. If you go with the bolts only, you still need the longer bolt but have no spool to support the bolt. The spool offsets the leverage of the bolt.
You probably would be okay with just bolts but why risk it? Get a $20 set of spools and just remove them after you take the bike off the stand if you don't like the look of spools.

If you break a 10mm bolt you are doing something wrong! I spend a lot of time working on heavy equipment and tractors, you'd be surprised at the stress a 10mm bolt can hold. The cab on your car is probably held to the frame with just a few 10mm bolts.

oh FCOL--just buy a couplwe spools made to fit a ZX-14 swingarm so you don't scratch your paint..
If you buy yourself some good quality bolts it will cost you $5. Just get some spools.

aluminum bolts won't rust.
NO
don't
OK well what about aluminum spool bolts for the 14? Pro-Bolt makes spools for the ZX14 and they are solid aluminum including the M10 threaded portion. M10 aluminum bolts in Vertical Horizon spools? Safe or not?

Dont know the bolt size is it M10-M12??
M10 6061 AL static shear strength is 1078 lbs and an M12 is 1560 lbs, so if 50% of the bike weight (assume 300 lbs to be conservative) is on 2 M10 spool bolts its factory of safety is very good at 3.6, shear capability is 1078 lbs.
M12 is more capable.
This is where I would use Ti screws - about the same as steel then. But the AL is safe to use in a static load, keep in mind lifting the bike is not static but I think the dynamic load condition would still be safe.

This Ti hardware is killing me! Hate to spend $30 on two bolts.
Thanks, rude.
