Ceramic coaters in So Cal?
10/10/09 2:05 PM

Looks like I finally have time to get my wheels chromed and the header coated.
Since I really don't know one company from another I've decided to go with Classic Components for the chroming. They seem to know what they're doing, fair price, and they're local.
As for the ceramic coating I don't know who to go with. A place called Hipercoat sounded OK until it appeared my "semi-gloss black" would actually be a silver ceramic coating sprayed over with hi-temp semi gloss paint.
Can anyone recommend a coater, hopefully local? I want it done in semi-gloss black instead of what I generally see...a silver finish most shops call "Sterling".
Also, any tips/past experience you can offer about having chrome/ceramic coat work done would be appreciated. I've heard some had chrome in places it shouldn't be. I hope good communication will stop things like that from happpening.
I plan to replace the bearings with Kawasaki parts and I guess the seals aren't re-usable?

Hi Kak,
You could try looking in the yellow pages under powder coating. That's how I found my local shop that does it. Black ceramic coating is the most effective. I do have some '06 headders, with a satin black ceramic coating, for sale. I used them for a short time on my '08 while I was working on the '08 headders. Yes, they fit any year and they don't have a cat! Definite power increase, without the cat, over the newer ones with cat. I'd sell for $150 plus shipping. (It cost me $150 to have the coating applied.) The outlet connections are less than 1/8" smaller in diameter than the '08 and newer, but stock or aftermarket cans fit with the OEM gaskets from '06, which are just that much thicker. I also had the mid pipes coated. There is a little performance gain from that also. But you'll really appreciate it on hot days because it eliminates most of the convected heat from the engine!
Let me know.
