Ping Hub: Electrical Issue....
08/04/24 7:56 PM

Hubster, I installed a New Rage Fender Eliminator kit on my 2020 BMW S1000RR, got it installed on Friday and no workee! Had a license plate light and left turn signal, no right turn signal, no integrated running light and no integrated brake light, engine off, switch on. Got two fault codes, faulty brake light and faulty right turn signal on my TFT display. Cranked it up and everything worked fine, fault codes cleared, shut it down and with switch on it worked fine. Went out to ride it this morning and same two fault codes and no brake lights or right turn signal appeared again. Let it sit and a few hours later, working fine again. Started it up many times today and tried it with and without engine running, worked perfectly all day. The two turn signal lights on this bike are integrated by the ECU to act differentially for turn signals and in unison for brake light and running light. What gives? Am going to try it again in the morning, if it's still working, I'll go for a ride and see what happens. I'm baffled.

Just a thought, do the aftermarket lights draw the same amount of current as the OEM lights? Do the indicators flash faster than the OEM lights did? I remember reading about ZX-14 owners having problems with LED turn signals. The LEDS drew far lower amperage than the OEM tungsten lights and this caused them to flash so fast they burned the relay out. The solution was to put in a resistor, I believe.

The turn signals have a resistor installed in parallel with each lead to balance the resistance. I went to ride it and it immediately failed again. Ordered a new one, will try again when it arrives. In the meantime dealing with Revzilla customer support trying to get them to refund me for this one, $237, this has been a nightmare. They want photos of everything and videos. I plug the original OEM turn signals back in and they work fine, what more proof do they need something is defective in the unit that they sent me?

I was going to say to pull it and see if it's the unit or the beemer. Figured it's the unit if not a simple plug and play. When you have the key on and it codes, just turing the key off dumps the code. Key back on and it clears it's the unit if it comes back on.

Why does code, I have no clue.

Found this. So if you matched install and she has no problem, has to be the unit I would assme.

Thanks Hubster, I ordered a new one and Revzilla sent me a return authorization and FedEx shipping label for return, the new one should be here tomorrow, I'll get it installed and see what we have.

My best guess is a defect in the right LED and the ECU is throwing the fault code since it cannot pair up the left and right signals for brake and running lights.

The new replacement unit arrived here on Saturday and has performed flawlessly, my best guess is an out of the box failure of the right LED caused all the grief.

BTW, I'd like those girls to come over and assist me on my next installation...
