Anyone live along close to US 50..? I plan on doing US 50 coast to coast (San Francisco to Ocean Beach Virginia)
Would be cool to have a cup along the way with anyone close by.

Not sure how long to put it together but hopefully before end of Sept.

I don't live near there, but have ridden a section through Nevada on the way to my buddies folks' place. Very desolate out there.

Got caught by a Storm on US 50 about 6 yrs ago , riding back to Eureka Springs Arkansas for a rally. I was half way between Eureka Nv and Ely Nv.. No place to hide from or anything to hide under.. The absolute most miserably wet and cold I have ever been on a motorcycle. When I checked into the motel , it was 10:00 am and I told the gal I would pay extra to get a room immediately.. She had to get my card out of my wallet I was shaking so bad..She told me the next day that she seriously thought about calling for an ambulance after looking at me..CLosest I have ever been to being knocked out by hypothermia..
I could see the storm off to one side but miss judged its path and so was directly under it for about 50 miles.Last time I got far from home on the bike without enough full rain gear. Stupid mistake but I survived it :)

WOW chrly!

One of the surprisingly coldest times I've ever been was actually in the Bahamas on a bright, sunny, mid-summer day ... well it was bright and sunny! We were out in a small fishing boat, got caught in a horrendous rain storm, couldn't get out of the rain for an hour ride back to dock ... and during that ride I was so freezing and shivering, I couldn't believe I was gonna freeze to death in the Bahamas! Shivered my ass right into the hotel's hot tub, and that warm water was one of the best feelings I've ever had!

I didnt have a hot tub available but I think I got in the shower in the motel, :) Doggone wind starts hitting your wet body and it gets pretty dang uncomfortable..

Chrly, I live right on US 50 here in SE Cincinnati. I have ridden it all the way from Cincinnati to St. Louis Missouri. Took me most of the day for just that leg. Its a lot of little towns and stops but it was super fun. My Dad and I were planning on doing it again this year but it did not work out. It can get SUPER windy in Illinois so watch out for that.

Let me know when you finalize details on your trip and I will at least try to wave as you pass by!

I have done Hwy 50 from central Indiana to Sacramento... Make sure you keep the gas tank full, heading across Nevada is a real stretch... I did it a bunch of years ago and I remember praying for a gas station around Ely Nv. But is was a ride I will never forget. Hell of a solo ride...

Thanks for the input Batt5 and I definitely agree about fuel..

Illinois is horrible for cops so I would go posted limits through that state they hide everywhere.

It's been a few years (around 10 I think, so the laws may have changed) but I got a ticket on the 50 outside of Ely. The way the police officer explained it, if it was during daylight hours and you were in a county of less than 100,000 people, you got off with paying the fine and nothing else. Nothing went on your record. Not sure if that still holds, but I was glad to hear it at the time.
Of course, the officer's attitude might have been slightly different had we been doing 150 instead of 90, so that's something to think about.
And sorry, I don't live on the 50.
