2013 ZX14R Special Edition with ABS ...SOLD
04/18/26 9:22 AM

After owning 3 ZX's, I finally got the perfect combination of parts for Sport Touring.
It does it all, but my 79 yo body sadly doesn't any more.
It's getting too heavy for me to handle and before it tips over or worse, it's time to sell.
Many parts are not available in the US anymore, but they make a great package for 2 up touring.
The bike has 11,000 miles and comes with Ivan's flashed ECU and Yosh slip-ons.
It runs like a dream and averages 46-50 mpg.
LSL handlebar kit replaces the top triple tree and mounts conventional handlebars.
The SW Motec quick disconnect racks(4 1/4 turn machine screws) hold a color matched set of Givi V-35 bags.
There are 3 seats to choose from: stock with cowl, Sargent modified with Gen 1 cowl, and Sargent 2 up.
The 2 up seat is comfortable enough for 300-400 mile days. Seat cowls are painted to match.
The modified seat is my daily and got me from NJ to Barber in a day and a half...1000 miles +/_.
The Ohlins TTX with hydraulic remote adjuster puts the icing on the cake..
Add 5-10 clicks for loaded bags, add 10 more for the wife and go ride.
I had the suspension set up at Washington Cycle and it handles like it's on rails, solo or 2 up.
I also have 1 range stiffer spring, the stock shock with 4000 miles, and the Ohlin's manual.
The GSG sliders have replaceable ends, I have 3 extra. I also have Knight Design lower pegs.
Bike is sold with all original parts, owners manual, factory shop manual, 2 keys, 4 keys for the Givi bags,
3 shields (stock, double bubble, touring).
I also have a Famsa tank bag with both large and small bags...very expensive set up made in Italy and no longer available. All in all, I have about $5000.00 in extra's.
This is the best sport touring motorcycle I've ever owned and it's a shame to see it go...
It's an immaculate bike that's been babied. I can't remember it ever being in the rain.
It's been garage kept on a lift for cleaning and tinkering.
Get in touch for more details, pics, whatever. You will not be disappointed.
Asking price reduced from $12,500.00 to $11,500.00, located in Augusta NJ.

Hey Hank

Sorry that I didn’t follow up with you.

I have been encountered with unexpectedly needing to replace the front steps and foundation.

So unfortunately for me, I’m gonna have to forego getting a bike at this time.

All the best wishes for a quick sale.

Best Regards,
Todd

Rook, I have no idea what you are talking about???

Todd, thanks for letting me know.
Keep it in mind if things turn around for you.

Extrapolator, I appreciate the thought and hope you do well on Bring a Trailer.
I'd be very interested to hear the details afterwards.

LOL I was confusing you with BigBS. He owns two 08s the same color as mine. I thought he was selling his Gen2 but that's black and gray, if I recall. I must have gotten my wires crossed because you and i were just conversing a short time ago. Good luck on the sale, Hank. ...so what now? Have you decided to hang up your motorcycle helmet for ever or maybe go to something lighter?

Rook, I'm way to young to hang up my helmet....I'll only be 79 May 1st!
I outfitted this bike so my wife and I could ride on the weekends and take a few trips.
As I got older, the weight of us together with loaded bags started to cause me to struggle a bit when stopped.
Before we tipped over, we decided to forgo riding together.
I love the ZX14R, but had to admit a lighter bike makes more sense at this stage of my life.
I bought a real nice twin cylinder Aprilia Tuono Factory...it weighs right at 400 lbs and make 139 HP.
Full Ohlin's suspension. lightweight forged wheels, carbon fiber, etc.
I was going to throw that in the garage and just keep it for whenever I wanted to ride.
Got it home and the motor in my Chevy Silverado let go a couple days later.
I needed $5000.00 for the motor and put the Tuono up for sale too.
Whichever bike sells, I'll keep for this season and if the ZX sells first, then I'll keep the Tuono.
It's my "security blanket" as I have to have a bike...I'll never be without one.
Capische?
Thanks for asking...

Hank, you can get landing wheels for your Bike and make it more stable. I've seen Goldwings with this setup.

Hank - OK my Bring a Trailer auction concluded this afternoon, and my take is ... If I was you I wouldn't bother listing yours there! Mine sold for $7,000. That's at least $1,000 less than I would've thought, maybe even $2k less, and I wouldn't have been shocked to see $10k.

And a Cycle Trader ad would've been cheaper, would've run longer, and you can be selective about what price you decide to let the bike go for ... or not let the bike go at all if it's lower than you feel like selling for.

I was reasonably pleased with my Bring a Trailer auctions for my Ford GT and GT wheels, but the bike, not so much. The issues are that their buyer's fee is too much higher than a Cycle Trader ad costs, the time involved in preparing a MUCH more thorough listing that didn't seem to pay off, and you really need to answer every single question posted which can be posted by anybody anywhere in the world whether or not they're actually serious about bidding, and when Bring a Trailer is only willing to run your item at No Reserve, you're stuck having to sell it for the high bid, even if you don't think it was fair market value.

So their fee is higher, more work / time on the seller, and you have no choice in whether or not to let it go.

Bring a Trailer is probably better for higher dollar, rare / collector / exotic vehicles, especially that are in high demand. Apparently the ZX14 isn't any of those. Or maybe mine just got unlucky that the right bidders didn't show up. Or maybe people don't like em in white

Depends on how you look at it. I'd love to have a clean, well cared for bike for turbo but thats not a must. ...then there's the cost of transporting the bike. I went for your initial offer. Add another couple thou for shipping....I might find a brand new one for not a lot more. At this point, I've decided shipping with a used bike is just a reality of the part of the country I live in. Otherwise, it's buy new. I would be completely happy with no regrets now if we agreed on 10 grand right off the bat. You'd be up a couple grand too and you could have persuaded me to let you sell all the touring stuff separately as much of a pain as that would have been.

Hey Hank,

Let me be one of the last to offer congrats on getting asking price for your bike and parts.

I wasn’t lucky enough to get your bike, but I was able to find a nice 2014 matte black with red accents.

Question… if you would….

What modifications did you need to make to fit the Gen I seat cowl onto your Sargent seat?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The custom Sargent solo seat started off as a complete stock seat from a first gen bike ZX14.
I sent everything down to Sargent with instructions on how I wanted it re-foamed.
I then had them send the seat back prior to covering it and rode it around of a while.
I covered the foam with blue painters tape and marked exactly where I wanted it changed.
Back to Sargent and this time they covered it.
The finished version was lower, flatter, narrower and tapered in the front and great for sport riding or even trips.
The foam used was a special foam with a firmer insert right under your butt. It was my seat of choice for my day and a half banzai run from Jersey to Barber Motorsport Park outside Birmingham, Alabama and back. 1000 miles each way.
The other Sargent was great for two up riding. My wife said it was the most comfortable of any bike she was even on, and there were a lot. It was good for 375 mile days, 2 up.
Hope that helps.
Hank

Oh… ok
That sounds like an amazingly comfortable seat.
I was under the impression that it was a Sargent factory seat that you either modified the Sargent seat or the stock cowl. I’ll use the information you provided if I decide to send my Sargent seat to be customized.
Thanks….. I appreciate you taking the time to share the procedure.

Best Regards
