PSI for Michelin PR3's?
05/14/12 5:59 PM

My new tires just got here.
Have been running RoadSmarts but decided to give the PR3's a try. What do you guys run them at? I usually start most tires at 35ish and see what kind of PSI rise I get once they are up to temp. (Looking for a 10-15% RISE in psi) Waiting for a Bud to get home so I can get my Mojo bar back from him...,
Front was made in March!! Back, about this time last year.

Thats a lot of psi guys, but I'll try it for starts. Havent ran that high of psi ....,well ever. Pirellis, Dunlops, etc. all were happiest and warmed correctly between 34-37 on street. Rarely ran over 34 at track days.

Yea Rook, I saw that thread. Guy is a douche looking for a lawsuit. From what I understand it came to nothing. Dude was at fault. His story was weak sauce.

Skiffman 42psi is the ticket on the RP3’s its all I ride on because they are amazing everyday tires and I ride every day!

I keep mine at 42 cold, so after I'm riding awhile the TPS (tire pressure sensor) says front and rear are both at 45 psi.

Pretty much perfect.

I do remember back in the ZX11 day when Michelin rain slicks were supposed to be run at 38 psi. But we are in the 21st century now, and sport touring tires all want to be run at 42 cold.

Also, look in your manual or the service manual, they say 42 psi too, I think.

I just fill mine to 45 so I have a longer window before I need to ad air. Also, the extra couple pounds doesn't hurt the life of the tire.

I would only use lower tire pressures on the street if I was heading out to do some heavy duty cornering. I probably wouldn't push it hard enough to even warrant the lower tire pressure but a little extra confidence might make the experience more fun. I never had a traction problem on the street with even with 45 psi. If the weather was cold, I would go with 42, maybe even a bit lower for street riding.

Just did a 150 mile loop around Hood Canal to break them in.
Gorgeous warm day, Little traffic on my favorite hidden roads so got to acclimate myself well with them.
The turn in is remarkable!! Especially with 1 1/2" raised rear ride height!
Might have to cut that in half.
Obviously the trade off is less straight line stability compared to the Dunlops.
Any input gets immediate turn. The Dunlops are more relaxed and need more input.
So sightseeing will require stopping or much more vigilance.
Blasted a couple of straights and felt very solid.
Not done yet but I'm figuring 38ish front & 40ish rear psi for my riding and roads. You will rarely find Me on State Highways and am only on a Interstate when forced to.
Was having too much fun to keep close track of psi. Also wasnt going completely nuts, what with new and unfamiliar tires..
.
Grip was very very good.
All in all, seems to be a somewhat better tire than the Dunlop, which is a great tire.
I'd say the PR3's are sport tires that tour well and the Dunlops are sporty touring tires.
We will see if I am as impressed with their wet grip as much as I was with the RoadSmarts wet grip. With the deep tread to the sidewall and siping I'm sure they will displace water as well or better. Just a matter of seeing if the rubber formula is as good in the wet and cold.
From all reports I've read the mileage will be there.
