DANG FLATS
03/26/12 2:22 PM

Finally was gonna ride the 14 for the 1st time after putting the wheels on and the back tire was flat. Been sitting for a week and a half or maybe a little more so never noticed it. Up on the CS with 60 plus lbs of air and a soapy water solution trying to find a leak - no luck but I know it is there some where. Sunday it was down to 52 lbs of air so pull the back wheel off and submerge in water. After 20 minutes of trying to find a leak I was about to give up then finally an itty bitty bubble comes out of hiding. This hole cannot be any bigger than a pc of 28 gauge wire with out the coating and about drove me nuts trying to find.

I must thank the guys at Firestone that put a flat patch on the inside and gave me a dozen of their inside patches with plugs on them and did not charge me. It was my 1st time in their store so I know I will have to go back.

Put it back together and went for a 78 mile ride plus not being the persistant traffic offender like some on here I only hit 120 indicated once - on 4 different occasions...........

Only flats I ever had were nails or other large object in the middle of the back tire. That one you had sounds like too much work to NOT plug!

Rook I do no have a problem plugging a tire but I just could bring myself to drill a hole in the tire to get a reamer to go thru it. That hole was that small so I chose the inside flat patch. May have taken some time but I still got a ride in Sunday.

Good news is that I have real patches on hand should I have another problem and since my rear tires for my kitted ZRX's are take offs the sport bike guys bikes I do tire changes for it will benefit me. Some people will not ride with a patch or plug and get a flat with a meat still left on the tire so they buy a tire and I mount / balance for free and keep the old one and sometimes that involves pulling the wheel off their bike.

It is good to have a lift and air and tire changer and balancer and heat and a/c and music and fridge and tools and a bbq pit right outside the gayrage!!!!!!!

You have the three staples covered. Food, Beer, Tools. Sounds like the perfect mancave!

Good deal.

I wouldn't bother about a tiny hole like that one you patched. A plug would seem to be a necessary safety measure for a nail hole or bigger. Really, a patch on the inside should be reliable all by itself, shouldn't it? I've never heard of a patch coming loose. A plug, I would only rely on as a temporary makeshift if I was out in the middle of nowhere.
