I'm not going to be much help. When my '06 hit 15K I looked for a shop anywhere in the South Bay/LA area I thought was capable of doing the valves and not f'ing up my bike and determined one did not exist.

A coworker's father worked at Mid-City Kawi and I considered them but they would not guarantee the tech I wanted would do the work. So, I did it myself and was very glad I did.

Only thing hard or really a PIA, if you have the basic skills and tools, was getting the valve shims. Turns out not many people actually have this service preformed so none of the local stealerships (del amo) had any parts in stock and they had to order them and a few of the fractional mm shims I wanted had to come from Japan, took over 2 weeks to get the little bitches. I Enjoyed the job and got to take all kinds of cool shit apart. I bought the sync tool from motion pro and did the TB sync also. I here a lot of guys buy the Hot Shims kit and that pretty much covers it, but I wanted a few of the fractional mm parts listed in the service manual and hot shims did not include them.

KAK, I think you could very safely wait a while on this. I did mine at 28.5k miles and there were a couple that were tight. I just checked again at 43.5k and every single one was exactly where I set it last time. I don't think they move much after the initial wear in. Good for you for being on top of it but my guess is if you checked them yourself, you'd find that none of them would be dangerously out of spec and all might still be in spec. Still have the stock plugs in mine and runs and starts great.

You're right though, it is a big job. Nothing you want to rush. Your being realistic by admitting to yourself that you won't be able to get this done without a lot of extra time.

If you have it done now for peace of mind, why not ask if they will let you come in and pass the feeler guage in there to see for yourself that the valves are tight or loose? Couldn't hurt to ask. I'd offer another $100 if that's what it took. They might let you do it. That to me would be a big vote of confidence. If they they don't want you to inspect the work they claim your bike needs even if you offer more $$, I'd be suspicious. IDK, maybe no shops will do this but to me, it would be worth a try and let that be the deciding factor. Verify the clearances before and after the adjustment (if you need one). Not much they could do to rip you off if you see with your own eyes. You'll be able to tell if the head cover gasket and ringos were changed. Easy enough to take the spark plug out of cylinder #4 to see if they replaced them with new.

Don't want to sound stupid but do the throttle bodies hold their synchronization better than the old in-line 4 carbs do?

IDK?? I have not tested mine yet. I don't know how much improvement balancing will make but Hub recommends it.
