Brembo T-drives
03/26/12 10:46 PM

Hello, I just purchased a set of Brembo Full Floating T-drives for my 2009 ZX14,
man these things make noise with every little pebble in the road. Just doesn't seem right.
Brembo makes horrible rotors. Anyone else having the same problem? Thanks Rick Spaulding

I'll buy 'em off of ya!

My BrakeTechs make noise too... Price you pay with a true full floater... Worth it IMO... Get a louder pipe.

Yeah... Lotta dough for something you're not happy with... but really is normal.

If you feel the need, go for it... but the T-Drives are meant to have free play between the rotor and carrier.
There are different model Brembos that will not make the noise that's buggin' ya... Maybe you can do an exchange?

I don't know though. I tried fixing my own Ohlins forks after Dan Kyle fucked them up.
Then I bought tools from Dan Kyle and they were the wrong tools and I fucked up my own forks
and then I had to have this dealer fix then because I'm a retard. Maybe, I shouldn't burn a bridge, huh?

Only you know that answer... But if you are a good customer, I don't see why the dealer would not work with ya on this... Just try to keep a cool head, but don't be a pushover... Gotta walk the line.

So, if I already told him via txt to his personal cell tonight
that I'm going to show up at his place and surprise him, and he better
watch over his shoulder at all times, because I'm going to injure him.
And then bad mouth him to Brembo, so he loses dealership rights, and never gave
him a chance to respond on the fix, exchange, etc. I probably crossed the line for getting any help, huh?

Yes and yes... you so angry because you bought some of the best rotors $$$ can buy, but then figured out that you are so slow you have no use for them?
Oh... the mask... my next track day is on Friday the 13th... get it? Didn't think so. "Dan Kyle fucked up my forks"... LMAO!... guy drinks fork oil, farts nitrogen, and shits springs.

Actually, full-floating rotors are the noisiest things next to a dry clutch. This is why all stock front rotors are semi-floating. Full-floaters are looser on the buttons and hence they make a rattling noise. Nature of the beast.

what exactly do full floating rotors do that semi floating don't do?

(ok, I know they float more--lol)

...but what benefit are they?

What is Full-Floating?

What is Full-Floating?Full floating rotors, such as were originally conceived, were designed to reduce the tendency towards thermal stress induced distortion due to uneven thermal expansion under load. Prior to the introduction (by Brembo) of this design, brake rotors in the motorcycle industry were simply round discs bolted solidly to the wheel. You may remember if you've been around long enough, the rotors on the early CB750 and Z-1's were nearly 7mm thick and weighed accordingly. This was in effort to keep them from warping. Now days, the only road bikes coming through with solid mount (front) brakes are the Cruisers and budget bikes.

Today's Sportbikes abound with trick features and hardware in every nook and cranny. Brakes too. The brake rotors on them work remarkably well considering their mass-produced (read: stamped) manufacturing process. These are technically semi-floaters as the outer SS blade is nearly bolted solid to the carrier via the stamped stainless steel rivets.

True full-floaters move on the carriers, this allows them to self-center in the caliper for reduced brake drag and "float" unimpeded for unrestricted expansion and contraction during repeated thermal cycling. The only serious down side is a bit of rattle that reminds you these are indeed full-floaters.

Does all this guarantee they won't distort under severe duty conditions? No, unfortunately, there's precious few guarantee's these days. But they do perform as advertised in improving overall braking performance while significantly reducing that distortion tendency.

BTW: All Superbikes, GP machines and the like unanimously have full-floating brake rotors

That's not something I would even worry about for the 14. Not at this point. Good to know though. Thanks Dogo.

Full floaters on a street bike is completely unnecessary for many reasons.
I know you've concluded #1, they are freakin' loud rattling mofos!

I just put 320s on my 750 track bike, that's 10mm over-sized

so, you saying my 14 is not a track bike?

that's all I have for now. maybe have something a bit more trackable .......next summer. maybe.

...Stan did you ever notice your brakes fade at all on the 14. I may well brake a lot less than you did when you took your 14 track riding but even at max braking power, the front locking and back skittering up off the ground, I never really pulled hard on the brake that I can recall.

There's fade to a degree on any brake system and there shouldn't be any need to forcefully pull on the lever to achieve hard braking. I do two fingers on the lever and trailbrake as deep as I dare to. The rear coming off the ground at the track happens on any hop lap, there just isn't any weight on the back at all.

I was asking for exactly that reason. I have a hard time imagining the 14 losing braking power to any serious degree. Some bikes must have significant brake fade if they need brake upgrading for track use.
