I showed a friend of mine a pic of my new 14 and he responded "I thought you were going to get a crotch rocket?". How much more rocket-like can you get? Just because it is more comfortable and might not handle quite as well as some race replicas this is still a sport bike. I'm sick reading all the little 600 and 1000 cc guys calling the 14 a touring bike. Yeah its comfortable enough to tour with. Am I alone here thinking I'm riding a sportbike? Did I accidentally buy a sport tourer which can be catagorized with the likes of the Honda VFR and Kawi C14?

What the hell do THEY know?That's odd...cause everyone who asks me what kind of bike I ride....they always say..."You ride a crotch rocket?"

True story.I get asked that a lot.EVEN BY POLICE PEOPLE.They usually just smile and such.But they NEVER ask "where".And I don't tell either.

ive seen slow riders on 'crotch rockets' and fast riders on tourers, the proof is in how YOU ride!

And it depends on who is describing it. A girl at work owns a Harley, and so does her husband. She calls my ZX14 a crotch rocket, even though she understands I can tour on it better than she can on her Harley, other than not being as comfortable.

To her, it will be a crotch rocket to the end of time. I could put ape hangers on it, and forward controls, and to her it would still be a crotch rocket. Because it isn't a Harley.

I don't care what people think. The local sportbike club has decided I ruined my ZX14 by putting regular handlebars and Givi luggage on it. I don't care.

They don't get to ride to Mt. Snow VT and Finger Lakes NY this summer, either.

My ZX10 was a crotch rocket. My H1 and H2 were crotch rockets. My Z1 was a crotch rocket.

I'm not convinced my ZX14 was ever a crotch rocket, unless I'm the jolly green giant.

I was at a bike rally recently and the wife and I were departing from a vendor area where we had to roll within a few feet of some picnic tables with families eating. I didn't hear it at the time, but my wife said there was this little boy sitting with his parents and when they told him to look at the 'motorcycle' his eyes got wide and he said staringly,

"That's not a bike! That's a Spaceship!"

And so I maintain that I do not ride a 'rocket' which is only good for quick blasts, I ride a shapeship which can make the jump to light speed and travel the universe!

That kid was really smart for his age!

Since a lot of people call this bike a crotch rocket, lets call the 14 an "X" bike (I know "X" stands for experimental). We could call it the X-14 in honor of the fastest manned rocket powered aircraft....the X-15. It hit speeds of up to 4,510 MPH (7,258 KM/H) in 1967. Or we could go with a manned air-breathing aircraft, the SR-71 route. But I like the "X-14".

I tell people it's the worlds fastest sport/touring. They look at the Corbin with the backrest and ask if those chrome bottles are nitrous and I say "yup". They say "OK". LOL
Last night at bike night I had a Harley guy that I have known for a long time, but haven't seen in a while asked;
"You still on that bendover?"
"YUP"
"When you gonna get something ya sit up straight on?"
"When I wanna go slow"
He left. Keep in mind this guy is the fastest Harley around and his wifes is probably second. Another buddy shook his head at me and i told him;
"I know he's fast, but I think I can say that with no hesitation." LOL

When someone asks me what a zx14 is, I tell them it is a Hyperbike... when they don't understand that, I tell them it is the bike Kawi built to eat Hayabusas and shit Blackbirds... Most get that.

BTW... according to my insurance, the zx14 is not a "crotchrocket". Which is a good thing. My 10r, though less cc's, costs more $$$ to insure.

We ran into a guy in Holland this spring who was touting his supercharged Hardley as a rocket killer. When my friend who rides a harley with us told me what the guy said I just smiled and said,'well everyone's got their story', and then my wife(traitor) says,'he said it's got 300 HP', I said he'll need every last ounce of it to. I can just imagine doing 180-190 sitting straight up on a heavy steel framed bike with no aerodynamics. lol The bike may do it on a dyno, but I'd be hard pressed to believe any 'Harley' guy is gonna like going that fast on their harley. What a waste of money. He wasn't referring to dragstrip racing but impromptu traffic light races BTW.

No, no supercharger. He has the 120R factory race motor ($$$$ & Lies to get it) in a bagger. It will ride wheelies in all gears.

I am with ya on the top speed thing. He's not going anywhere near there on his 1100LB. bike.

Ya...funny stuff!Good one Edge!!!Reminds me of the day I was just out havin fun,cruisin at around 85 or so.Come up on TWO guys ridin their blacked out ...whatever they were...Harleys.You know...the "badass" model...kinda separates the Hogs from the piglets.Ya..anyway...come up behind em..they're runnin around 85,90.Some ungodly speed like that.Ya...so's I just stayed behind em...you know...too embarrassed to pass....wouldn't want em makin fun of an "American" on a Jap bike.Ya....well,shit...I can't stay HERE all day I tells myself.Um...that tractor trailer up ahead,these guys ARE gonna pass that guy,right?Apparently not.Clear road...okay...here I go.Downshift twice...light the candle....WTF?Coulda SWORN there were two guys and a tractor trailer back there.Oh well...this is much nicer...not eatin that rig's dirt and all.
