ZX-14R vs ZX-14R
06/05/16 1:50 PM

The 2015 ZX-14R is completely stock and the rider weighs 240 lbs. I weigh about 150 lbs--see the mods below for my bike. This was like taking candy from a baby. I know I am 90 pounds lighter and my bike makes about 15 more horsepower than a stock bike--but I really did not think the race would be so one-sided. Look to the left of the video window and you can see I let him get the jump but in about 1 second I left him standing still

That wasn't even a race! Did you guys try it from a higher speed?

We had about 4 first gear pulls and 1 second gear pull, but the results were the same and he did not want to race anymore.

That isn't very surprising actually. You are almost 11% lighter than him with almost 8% more power. That translates to a huge difference in power:weight ratio. I even did the math to show it :O

I know the feeling of losing to a lighter rider on the same bike, and it sucks. Im 6'1" 245 and my neighbor is 185 lbs. He has a 2014 and just walks my ass every time.

Yes I do--but it only lasts about 1k miles.

Newer rider, it takes quite a while and some practicing to get good at getting the bike to accelerate it's fastest. You've got another 20+ lbs on him in exhaust weight. All in all just in quarter mile times by weight alone you'd be around .5 - .6 seconds faster.

Yeah I forgot to include the 36lb weight saving of a full exhaust in that calculation so the Power:Weight ratio is even more shifted in your favor. Sorry everyone!

Go pick up a 25 or 45 lb weight with your hands ... that's not an insignificant amount of weight!

And Nasty, you're carrying almost both those weights combined compared to your neighbor.

I'm the other rider. He has fast bike but I am new to the Zx-14. Also still baby-ing it. Was fun getting over 135 mph though. Only riding I have done on it was my 600 mile ride on highway home. But he did pull away pretty fast. Give me a little more seat time though.lol, only had bike few days. Absolutely love it. That is first time over 5k on bike since still in break in. We'll except for the car on highway that I needed to get around really fast. I have been riding cruisers lately and been about 5 years since I sold my Hayabusa. It is going to take me a while to get use to the 14. Love love love it even if someone blew me away but at least it was another zx-14. But honestly I didn't go anywhere near red line and was shifting early.

LOL! When you get more seat-time and some mods, we'll have a rematch. Who knows, I might be the one making excuses next time--it want be the first time or the last. :)

Not excuses. Your lighter and my bikes stock. Just the truth. Don't have any seat time on bike and only 600 miles on her so far. Also don't have experience you do at drag strip. Was fun though.

Yeah loosen up that engine and get your pipe then rematch.

I enjoy playing around with street racing too but it is much more playing than racing. I know I could have pushed harder or been more ready in some situations but it doesn't really matter who wins. The excitement is real enough. Getting even a little competitive with a vehicle so closely matched could easily lead to death so be careful. On the other hand, have a field day with the cars! But keep an eye on your mirrors when you slow down. I've had them come up behind me and do some crazy ass shit several times. Once avoided contact by a few inches.

When I was bringing her home on highway. Had a car start messing with me. Wasn't a race. He kept pulling next to me and riding next to me. I was doing about 80. I would go down to 70 and he would stay next to me. He then started riding my ass. He then started getting in front of me and slowing down. I tried to slowly just go around in left lane and he would see over in front of me. I hit it and got away for self preservation. Other than that been babying it so far.

After riding cruisers for a while it is almost a learning curve again to get use to the power. Have not been out of traction control 2 yet. Took her down a road I go down on cruiser with few nice twisty road and it felt so good to be able to lean a bike down again. I'm going to take it easy for motor but also for myself until I get use to her. Been riding for over 25 years. Not saying I'm a newbie to bikes and have had several powerful bikes. Just that it is not worth being to much in a hurry to get too agressive with her yet.

Ok, I guess I'm suffering from High-T LOL! I bought my bike in Jan. 2014 and it was my first bike since the late 80s and that bike was a Honda CB 750.

My break-in period for my 14R was 150 miles and then I whacked the throttle just as hard as I did in the video above. However, I rode alone at first and experimented with the various traction control modes and I ended up deciding to keep it on Full power mode, level 1. This works fine for me.

I bought my 14R, rode her 5 miles home, strapped her to a trailer, took her to the track, and beat the hell out of her in completely showroom stock form.
