Got ot make a tough decision.
02/13/13 2:37 PM

Need you guys input and wisdom on this. I have an 08 14, and an 09 R6. Both registered and insured and paid for. Trouble is I need to downsize to one bike. Sick of insurance, tags, personal property taxes amd maintenance on both. I am a track day rider and I like to do long distance rides. R6 for track, 14 for long rides. Thinking of a 4th gen 10R, If I trade both in I'll have little to no payment and less maintenance, and 1/2 the associated fees in VA. Believe me they tax you for everything they can. Besides Kruz does anyone own a 14, and a 10R that could shed some light on the long distance capabilities of the 10R since it will have to pull double duty.
I've done some searching and found a 2012 10R w/abs for 12k. Should I jump on it or come to my senses ans keep the two I have? Wife doesn't care as long there is not a 3rd bike in the garage. I'm 6'1" and 200lbs so will I be comfortable on it? All opinions will be considered.

I think you have the perfect combo right now. You'll never cover all those bases with a single bike. I'd get another but I'd never let go of either on e of the current just to make life more convenient. If it is simply costing too much that is different. then you have to choose track or highway.

I fear you may be disappointed with the ZX-10 compared to the 14 for street rides and long distance.

Keep the 14, sell the R6 and get a clapped-out SV650 for a track bike. You'll learn more on the track with a bike you can outride than one you can't.

Learn to ride the 14 like Gary McCoy. Then it will serve touring and track... dump the 6R.

You said all opinions will be considered. Mine is the 14 is panned on the track for its weight... but how many are losing the front, at the track, because they're constantly tickling the ragged edge?

I've seen two vids on this forum of pilots tearing up gymkhana tracks on the 14; I'm tasking YOU with being the first spank-master on the track.

I'll second what Danno said.

Use the 14 as your tourer/canyon carver and sell your R6. Pick up a older track only bike. No insurance, tags or taxes on it. Keep it solely for the track. Use any money left over to buy the wife something nice. It'll put you in the good books for while

As nice as the 10R is, it won't be half as comfortable for touring as the 14.

I'm going to weigh in here with a dissenting point of view since I currently have all three, ZX-14, ZX-10R and ZX-6R. If you have to have just one, the Gen4 ZX-10R would be my choice. It's almost as comfortable as the 14, at least as fast and almost as nimble as the ZX-6R. It splits the difference perfectly between the two. It will do track days with stellar speed and handling and you can do do distance but it's not an armchair like the 14. I did 200+ miles of backroad twisties with Jagman back in December and it felt great at 6'3" and 220 lbs here.

Drop the pegs to the lower position, they are adjustable, and consider a set of Helirisers if you're going long distance on the highway, also a double bubble windscreen.

Bottom line, the 14 will not stay with the 10R in the corners, riders being equal and the 10R will never have the all day comfort of the 14.

It seems all the guys going to the track are tempted to sell the 14. I think I'll stay away from the track. LOL
Danno is 100% right but if you're like me, you're the kind of guy who takes pleasure in riding an over powered bike, which you know you won't even come close to push to the limit. That's part of the fun for me anyways, if not I would be riding a scooter. Even when it comes to modification, not my skills but my pockets is the limiting factor. It's like guys who buy MOTOGP bikes.
You can get the ZX-10 and compromise or delegate the R6 to track duties only and stop paying the insurance and other silly fees.
The ZX-10 is expensive to crash at the track and since you're planning to tour with it, getting race fairing and switching back and forth is too much of a hustle. I know you want that bike but your best option is to keep what you have.

-1.

Owner of many, master of few.

Silver:

Tough call for me. Those fees must be absolutely *horrible* for you to consider going from 2 to 1 cycle, when they're paid for, and the wife is OK with the current 2 cycle deal.

Wow, must be just horrible. Glad to not live in VA...

I'm selling all my guns.

The events of the last few years have convinced me of the error of my gun owning ways. The powerful arguments of the President and the "real experts" on firearms and their control (peeps who have caught a bullet) have touched my emotions and cleared my mind.

I am going to Chicago, where they know how to regulate violence, and turn my scary black guns into Father Pfleger in return for $50, a good progressive citizen award and some exposure on MSNBC modern fables prime time TV!

Why, I pledge never to shoot at anyone ever again...........ever; don't know what I was thinking! What is this anyway, the wild wild west???

LOL exactly what I was thinking. Criminals and lunatics will always find a way to get high capacity weapons etc. I have got a glock 22 for the house (I already have some 15 rounders for it) on my short wish list and an expensive 1911 3 years from now for my 35th b-day. Like most of my hand guns si vis pacem para bellum will be engraved on it. I do respect your choice Paul but I'm not that courageous.
