damage/loss policy
01/05/11 10:28 AM

Just received a package. Remembered reading the copy below on a web site I recently ordered from. Decided to do as recommended. UPS guy told me "we do not take packages back because once it is in our possession it is our responsibility." Everything was fine with this order today. It was just a sprocket.

I have a bunch of stuff coming from the company that wrote the damage/loss policy below. I DID pay extra for shipping insurance. Is the UPS guy going to stand there and wait while I open everything and give it the green light?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All claims for loss or damage in transit must be made to the carrier at the time of delivery.

You have to tell the UPS person or other carrier, at the time of delivery, that the item is damaged the same day the item is delivered. You can not wait two or three days to file claim. The insurance on shipped parts is with the carrier, not Schnitz Racing.

The original box or package must be kept for the carrier to inspect. Don't throw anything away, keep it in the original box, with all of the packing materials. This especially applies to bodywork.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

P.S. I don't doubt they are a great company to workwith. I ordered from them before and everything was fine. I'm not so sure about this shipping policy. I always assumed if anything was busted or missing, any company would/should refund. Maybe we can clear this up.

Didn't someone post about a "surprize delivery charge" levied by the delivery person at the time of delivery where the order was held unless the fee was paid?

UPS has a $99 insurance policy when you use ground, I believe. If UPS dropped the box off and you and driver could not open it together, you call the company who sent it. If they were smart, that small insurance umbrella over the $99 will cover whatever was sent @ price of content.

I ordered a set of gaskets. Wouldn't you know instead of creasing the o-ring package, it bent the top gaskets in an "L." Lady on the phone reshipped the whole contents and said tape it up and hand it to UPS. So, when UPS rang, they said I need to pick up a package and here is the same box one more time.

The UPS guy normally won't wait. You inspect the outside of the box before signing. If there's damage to the box, he would normally ask if you want to refuse it, if not he notes the damage, and leaves. If there is internal damage, then the insurance kicks in, but that damage must be reported within 24 hrs. That's how it used to be anyway. UPS covers up to $99 automatically for free, like the Hub said.

thanks guys. the order is backordered. I guess that's another reason I'm a bit wondering what might go wrong. Probably fine. Schnitz is about as reputable as it gets. Had good luck and fast turn around with them in the past.

Wish they would offer free shipping on orders over 300.

LOL!!!!FREE SHIPPING!300.00 smackeroos. And NO free shipping.Tards.(I'm with ya on this Rook...not clownin YOU).

"Surprise Delivery Charge"?WTH is that?YOU pay shipping, and THEY want a "surprise delivery charge"?You know...if that was the case...I'd be findin my parts somewhere else! And that's NO BS.

Wait a minute...I just re-read your post Rook...YOU paid for insurance on your order?EXTRA?Non-refundable?I've never heard of that one before.I mean,ya...when ya go to send somethin they ask ya IF you want yada yada yada....But RECEIVING?So basically, hypothetically,IF Shnitz decided to send ya a part, and their guy dropped the package, broke somethin inside...they pay nothing to make things right? It's all on you?Hmmmmm.Sometimes I don't put things together too quick...but this here deal just doesn't sound right to me.WHERE is the "extra" charge for your "insurance" going?A third party connected to Shnitz?

When I ordered my pitbull stand...the pin for the zx14 was "supposed" to be with it.Okay...so I get my package.Open it up.Dig down through all the bubbly wubbly...take everything out.Hmmmmm...what's THIS little shrinkwrapped package here on the bottom...hmmm...looks like...an EMPTY pin package.Off the shelf.Factory plastic covered, you know...like they hang on a hook in the dealer's.There WAS a pin in it....at one time.WTH?HOW does a complete package come from so and so,and the friggin pin's been stolen?I looked at the outside of the box again at the corner where the pin package was sitting inside....check THIS out.The corner's been either torn open right there, and retaped,OR the carrier(or someone) dropped the package and the pin just so happened to "escape" the factory packaging and fall out,out of the corner(I mean...this pin is like..well,you know...not some teeny tiny piece of metal. It's fairly stout...not something you would just "drop" and not notice). And no one SAW this pin drop onto the floor when they picked the box up to reload onto their truck?C'mon.Geez.It just so happened to fall out of the nice secure packaging?

I called pitbull IMMEDIATELY.She didn't give me ANY BS....she says..."geez...we're sorry....we're right now gonna send ya another pin.Really sorry about that".Case closed.I paid nothing extra.Got my pin a few days later(they sent it priority or something like that).I don't understand you saying "I paid my own insurance".Don't sound right.

I know.......what a way to DISCOURAGE people from buying stuff from you when they can get these items from others who offer free shipping on $100 orders.

"Surprise Delivery Charge"?WTH is that?YOU pay shipping, and THEY want a "surprise delivery charge"?

I know a member who had a thread going about just that. Don't want to speak for him. He might chime in if he wants.

I'm not sure but I think it is a $2 extra fee paid to UPS to insure the stuff for over the standard $99 they insure everything for. Really, the inly way UPS is going to consider paying on a claim is if the box was damaged. Stuff gets wet, crushed--I hope they do the right thing. I used to be a package handler and it was a horro how we handled the stuff. Try 30 packages / minute under the floor and on top. Two trailors loaded below deck to the ceiling in 3 or four hours. 60 lb shit got literally thrown around every night.

WTH?HOW does a complete package come from so and so,and the friggin pin's been stolen?I looked at the outside of the box again at the corner where the pin package was sitting inside....check THIS out.The corner's been either torn open right there, and retaped,OR the carrier(or someone) dropped the package and the pin just so happened to "escape"
See above comments. The pin was most likely lost in a sea of packages ater the box was damaged and the pin fell out. Think there was about 2000 packages on a full trailor. we had to scan every friggin one of them for tracking purposes so they got counted in the process. Stuff did bust open and someone is supposed to do their best to "fix it up bt if small stuff fell out-------well, there was all kinds of small stuff from previous loads under the floor of the trailor.

Never had a problem with a delivery but if you ever worked for them.....you would think twice when you stopped to really think.
